Nuno Tavares is our Gareth Bale?

Total neutral, but he seems to have played ridiculously few senior games for a 22 year old. KT is 24 and has over 250 appearances already for Celtic, Arsenal & Scotland. From the little I've seen of Tavares, defending certainly isn't his strong point. WTF was he thinking to concede that pen at the weekend?

There's quite a number of teams who have full backs who can't defend. With someone like Tomiyasu in the side ensuring we've got 3 guys back, Tavares would have to defend a lot less. He's a lot of fun to watch when he goes forward so I'd much prefer to see him in the side at left back rather than shoving Cedric out there if we can get Tomiyasu starting against West Ham.

The problem is their biggest threat in Bowen plays out there so Arteta will probably slot Tomi in on the left and keep Cedric at right back.

There’s poor defending and then there’s no clue on what defending is. Tavares is the latter. Other full backs most times aren’t too bad

I don't disagree with that. I just think Cedric is a below par defender anyway but other doing an overlap, doesn't really offer anything going forward. I just think if Tomi starts against West Ham, Tavares is an overall marginally better option on the left than Cedric.

Could we upgrade on Tavares? Absolutely. Should we upgrade on him for next season? Yes. Let's get a competent 24-25 year old who can improve rather than a competent 30 something year old who won't improve or a young player who is just raw potential and may never improve.

Not saying he won't improve but as it stands he isn't prem standard.
