Ten Hag - Current Squad

Of our current squad, which players do you think will be in and around the first XI in the 2023/2024 season if Ten Hag is still at the helm?

DDG could do all of those things though. He just hasn’t been asked too up to now.

His inability with the ball is also greatly exaggerated.

Coaching is definitely a huge issue. If you buy a player like Maguire you can't expect to play a high line and get away with it.

Last season we didn't play a high line and Maguire was nowhere near as bad.

Our issue is we bought players for one system and then decided to play a different way.....and it's had disastrous consequences.

If you buy a keeper like de gea you can't expect to play a high line and get away with it either

Your last paragraph likely copies over for de gea in ten hags system too sadly

----------------------------------------------------------------------

How does a great shot stopper not work in a system where the high line gets caught out?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Being a great shot stopper and good one on one is very different. Look at Allison for Liverpool. How often does he save them one v one. Much more often than De Gea I'd say.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

One on one results in a shot. DDG is a great shot stopper.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't. I just can't argue with that really! So not going to waste my time trying!

Glad i could help you

Shot stopping and being good one on one/sweeping due to a high line are very different things.

When someone talks about a keeper being a good shot stopper they mean good reflexes. To be a good keeper in a team that plays a high line you need to be quick off the line, comfortable with the ball at your feet and a good passer. None of which De Gea is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why are you even trying to explain this to him, Elvis?

You must watch a different team to the rest of us. De Gea is often rooted to his line. Its one of the most common criticisms of him. He's not comfortable with the ball at his feet and often fluffs his kicks when under pressure.

I think Erik ten Hag has failed as a coach if he cannot turn someone with David de Gea’s skill-set into an accomplished defensive midfielder.
