Just an observation so not claiming I'm right here.
LVG when at UTD had a moan about players not thinking for themselves in terms of play and zones, when to change from attack to defence etc.
Pep seems to be the opposite. Everything is fine tuned. So many passes before attempt on goal type of thing. Subbing Henry for scoring as it wasn't what he wanted (iirc that was him). No strikers in games etc
Against RM City did their usual pretty football, precise passing, playing the ball out and for some of us it's a joy to watch. Yet with only a few minutes left and with a sizeable lead really they continued that style. The subs came in and followed the same principles. Then when RM scored they looked lost. RM piling on the pressure and City playing the same (and sure but for a save and clearance may have scored and won anyway).
My point being the players aren't allowed to think for themselves in the way LVG wanted (and I know his record so that isn't my focus here). And Pep didnt change anything. He didn't maybe go defensive and have a loan striker to hit them on the break when they were pressing. He didn't "shut up shop" as they say. Neither did the players they just looked lost doing the same thing they had all game.
So is Pep too much of a dictator and ultimately when they need a plan B they look lost? As good as he is in how he talks about football and wants to play a certain way and let's be honest has the money to buy 2 first elevens. Is he too much of a stickler for "my way or the highway" and is this costing City?
Is Pep the problem?

None said he is definitely the problem.
Just a discussion as to why they can't seem to win the CL despite playing, for me, the best football around, personally think better than Liverpool but very close.
His attention to detail and the strictness he dictates is well known. Where players are to be on and off the ball. Everything is decided to a T.
Don't think it's an unfair point of discussion really and it isn't belittling his achievements and certainly is not disrespectful to the man

How long had Walker been out?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you miss this, Boris?
I’ve been browsing as best I can on my crap phone, and from what I’ve seen he’d been out several games, and was injured again upon his return against Atlético. I think the Madrid game was his first since then, right?
In view of the circumstances and knowing the kind of player he was going up against, it seems pretty obvious that there was a good chance he’d break down again.

Ya the man who has won 9 out of 12 leagues in his managerial career and countless other trophies is a problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s not really relevant though - this is a cup game which needs to be seen out. I think it takes a certain type of manager to succeed in these sorts of game - some just aren’t suited to it no matter how good at league competitions or how good their teams are.

Stop displaying how obtuse you are.
Does winning all that make him a god? So because he's successful he can never be wrong or make a mistake?
You probably think you've made a great point but really you're just displaying an inability to think critically.

In all the years he's been in management, there's only ever been one single season where Guardiola's hasn't won at least one piece of silverware. Regardless of the teams he's managed, that in itself is a remarkable achievement. Countless managers in the history of the game have managed financially dominant sides without achieving a comparable level of success.
You can't compare the different cups though. The level of pressure at the deep end of the Champions League dwarfs that of any other competition in club football.
That throws up situations in which players' responses can be hugely difficult or impossible to control. Guardiola is an obsessive coach that tries to foresee and control every possible scenario, his teams are all about control, but the players are so drilled that they seem to have difficulty responding when these high-pressure games go crazy.
I think it's reached a point where it goes beyond the actual football or the relative merits of each team. It's got all the hallmarks of having become a huge mental obstacle they just can't shake.
I don't know if Guardiola's looked into this or not, but I've heard there is actually some fairly serious research out there on the possibilities of hypnotherapy.

Not saying he hasn’t - but this isn’t just ‘a’ cup - Europe is different. Also I said seeing a game out - again not the same as winning (not saying he hasn’t done that, I’m just saying some managers seem to be better at it than others)
