I think there's more to it than few teams playing a number 10 these days. I'm pretty sure in his breakthrough season at Spurs he played as a CM and then got pushed forward into the 10 position when Poch saw he had a talent for goal scoring.

Confidence I'm sure plays apart. But so does attitude and work rate in training. I don't remember any reports of him busting a gut in training at Spurs or Everton to get back in the team.

Even if we accept the idea that his poor form is because he is not being played in his favoured position, he is still young and could surely have adapted.

In that breakout 15/16 season he kind of played on the LW even if he ended up central more than anything. The front four was like:

Fair enough, I'm only going on memory. Also fair play to you on fighting a one man battle to defend Dele, I respect that even though I disagree with you on the reasons he finds himself in this position.

If I was his agent I would suggest a move to the USA; LA Galaxy if they'll have him. Good pay, sunshine, nice lifestyle and he'd probably shine in a weaker league and score lots of goals.

I think he needs to play for a team which he'd actually play for and who he suits stylistically. Maybe Leipzig if Nkunku leaves? I always thought he'd suit Moyes West Ham.

That would probably help but I think his stock has fallen to the point where his options have dwindled to 'any club that will actually take him'.

No but seriously, we've heard from Jose how he was a poor trainer, other reports about him losing his focus, numerous managers haven't given him much game time. I'm sure the position he plays in might have something to do with it, but you don't just fall out of the footballing radar if you remain completely focused on football.

I almost bit hard at the first line

Maybe he has lost a bit, but I think from the games early in the season when he was under Nuno you could see how hard he had worked to get himself incredibly fit. He covered ground like a madman back then.
Its more confidence and not suiting a system than anything - look at how much of a car crash Royal looked initially under Conte. Now since he has been coming inside more (and playing less of an overlapping WB) plus with him being more confident he actually finally looks competent.

If he was motivated enough then I can't see why when being sold to Everton to a manager who believes he can get back to his best, he wouldn't be starting games, unless his application isn't right. All these managers not favouring him, it cannot just be about his position on the pitch.

We had a guy who was capable of breaking into the box and getting plenty of goals. His getting into those positions and scoring should be a huge asset for managers and you'd surely try and make that work somehow. But they don't and other than a few spells and games, he hasn't shown it himself either.

In a team with really good players around him he is fine and his deficiencies are less noticeable but when he has to take the bull by the horns and be the main man he offers little. technically he is just not up to it.

Over Hyped from day 1 and it’s not the issue with the things he is good at it’s the million and one things he is not good at that stands out. The youngsters of today are much better technically than him and I would take the likes of Mount, Foden , Bellingham etc over him even though Dele has better stats. Dele just doesn’t cut it for me and never really saw the hype. .

I don’t really think the Everton thing made sense at all, Lampard never had a use for him and then they signed DVDB who is a similar player and never played him either. It’s just a dumb team that one.

Hearing Dele made a big difference tonight

I have previously posted about Dele, I live in the next village to his adoptive family, friends of theirs have said that the family are worried about his attitude. He has been acting like a big time charlie, and seems to think he has made it in life.
Well, he needs to realise that you only get to the top by hat work, and you only stay there by working even harder.
Look at Kane & Son, both completely professional but singularly completely focused on competing at the highest level🤔
