If we go simply by reports in the press there seems to a reluctance on the part of Alessandro Bastoni to leave Inter, particularly at this early stage in his career. If the transfer doesn’t go through for this reason then that’s fair enough and you can hardly blame the club for that.
Having said that how much longer should the club chase after the Italian and draw a line under the transfer and what are the viable alternatives?
Personally I think the LCB role needs to be filled in before the S Korea tour as it’s a priority position for the club and Conte clearly wants the transfers done early. Think the club should give themselves a two week deadline before firming up interest in other targets. Who those are is more difficult to identify. Gvardiol I think will be too expensive, Botman seems to be off to Milan, and Pau Torres is one who many think won’t suit the Conte style of play, so what are oriole’s thoughts on realistic alternatives if the Bastoni move doesn’t happen.

It’s all about improving the squad, Davies has been good but what if he gets injured?

How come the faithfuls have dimissed Ben Davies after his monumental displays in the run-ins?
I was never a fan of his, but he won over me in the last few weeks.
This is a guy with limited skills, but has shown heart and desire and led by example, to come through for us when we needed it the most.
If we are going to just go gung ho and get a Joe foreigner based on one season wonder stats, we need to reign in a bit here.
We have a good Left back CB, and we should not be held to ransom for anyone.

Cos spurs want to try and win trophies. Won't happen with him in the team, as history shows.

We've achieved CL, with him and because of him too. Don't forget his tackles denying Salah a shot on goal and probably a cert goal? So has been vital in big games.
One good thing with Davies, and probably why successive managers have put faith in him i because he is the ultimate pro. He takes the instruction to the pitch and tries to embody and apply these.
Though I won't mind him being second fiddles, to Pau Torres.
Now that is a good option for me. A tall and elegant player, comfortable on the ball.
I would say with Pau and Dier and Romero, we deffo upped our quality.
Add to that Eriksen in the midfield - that would solve our problems when we play low blcoking teams.

I'm not convinced torrens would work in the PL. Said it as soon as I watched him a few times. Excellent in his league bit pace and speed of the PL I just think he'd get bullied on a regular basis. I'd keep Davies over torres, even if I said I wasn't a fan.

The two games (that I recall) Romero started in the middle was when Dier was out we lost 2-0 to Wolves and 3-2 to Southampton

Harry Winks started both games.

I don't get why we'd spend a ton of money on Torres. If it's going to be a punt why not take Lenglet (yes I know he's been rubbish lately) with the option to send him back if he doesn't work out.

We had that problem under Poch with Eriksen in the team.
For me the low block needs men in the box and quality delivery or a skillful dribbler who can go past players and break lines.

We didnt really have that problem under Poch at the end as we'd usually end up winning those tough games - one of the main reasons being Eriksen.

We've got the best example of a team beating a low block, in Man City. Yes they have tricky players that can beat a man, and yes they need midfielders timing runs into the box to score.. but the key is consistently good passing.
It's no use having a good dribbler or someone perfectly timing a run if the final pass is a foot behind them. That's why Dele dropped off as soon as Eriksen left. It's why Grealish went from looking like one of the best in the league to barely above average.
We need Eriksen or someone close to his passing range and vision to unlock teams. That said, Conte isn't really about pressing in the opposition's box all that much. So maybe we focus on decent b2b players that can chip in with the odd goal etc
