Billy Bingham

An incredibly sad day for Northern Ireland football as we hear of the passing of our greatest ever manager Billy Bingham at the grand Old age of 90.
From playing in the 1958 world cup to 2 spells managing our Country in the magnificent 1982 competition and again in 1986, he is without doubt a true legend of the game.

Also not forgetting he won the last ever Home International competition, he enjoyed a brief and successful spell as Linfield manager.

Will have a few Bushmills tonight in his honour.
Cheers Mr Bingham

Ignorance is bliss, you stay in your Billy bubble, we remember the volatile comments he made back in the day which instead when he could have being diplomatic became incendiary so excuse me for not mourning his passing.

Not giving it up Igor.
Speaking of raising tensions Who played terrorist songs on the coach on the way to Windsor Park

Or if you want to raise the stake’s, an orange order singing a song about a catholic girl getting murdered days into her honeymoon because her father was the manager of Tyrone football team.

Never mind “trick or treat”, remember that.

That’s the real Billy if ya like, all for one.

He didn’t like us in ROI but all the same rest easy

He was a bigot.

None of his comments were bigoted. Why did you make that comment? It's nonsense. You are right about him making incendiary comments. He did. And you have a right to bring that up. Bigoted though? No.

It kind of makes me think you might have sectarian tendencies yourself. I'm a Norn Iron fan. How do you feel about us? All bigots?

Im a republican as is obvious but no way extreme and certainly over my years on this earth never sought to aggravate my norn iron brethren but I will never forget that night when we got a result against you in a game that really mattered, the toxicity was palatable and sorry to regurgitate it, Billy did little to diffuse the situation.

I’m done with this now, said my bit, I’m not feeling great hijacking’ the thread but it was not to inflame but to express.

There's a difference between doing little to diffuse a situation and being a bigot. And that's part of the problem we actually have here in this country. It's being able to throw words like bigot about and it's okay because it's about "the North" and themuns.

I don't march, I'm from a mixed marriage, I've grown up Norn Irish every day of my life, love the football team. But also don't hate Catholics or Republic fans (enjoy the banter with them, even if we're both poor). So easy for it to be "them versus us" and once you go down that road, your comments make it clear.

Mixed marriage and family here too, with mates and colleagues being Alliance, Unionist, loyalist, SF etc, and I know many Catholic nationalists who cheer on NI.

I was at Windsor during Bingham days 82 and 86 World
cups and home internationals then and it was dark at times with our singing on the spion kop, but it reflected our lives and society, and the team were mixed and United NI in sport.

Earl did the thread about a football manager and player passing and there was no need to go down the route Igor chose to....guys singing sick songs about Michaela or the UFF greysteel attack after shankill bombing had exactly what linkage to Billy Bingham?

There was and still is rivalry between NI and ROI...go figure.

Next, England will not be cheered on by Scotland🤣

Exactly. The existence of Northern Ireland in any form, in any sport is something no Republican wants. And if you don't feel the same way, you're a bigot. And the irony is obvious
