Also Luke, how come you're against utility companies being owned/run by the government?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Even though there are historical examples where this has been a mess, this and (for us in the UK at least) healthcare are the only sectors where I support government control. Other than that, governments are generally bad at running things.

NHS is too developed now to be abolished and utilities should be relatively simple.

That being said, if I asked this forum if they would be comfortable with Bojo or similar being in charge of our electricity, water & gas etc - how would we feel? 😂

14 Million people voted for him or for his government anyway. Yes we really have that many morons in this country.

Anyone with half a braincell could see he wasn't fit to run a country.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

perhaps they just viewed Corbyn as being even less fit to run the country.

The choices were not great so to slag off those who voted for Dumb, when Dumber was the alternative is a bit harsh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Jeremy Corbyn was far better fit to run the country. Morons just let the Daily Mail and the Sun convince them otherwise.

Imagine having a decent man in number 10 who actually cares about people rather than himself and his cronies.

Brainwashed bigots haven't got a scooby doo though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Corbyn (won’t press the button) vs Putin? Russia would be laughing their balls off with him in charge. You all backed Corbyn and his stance when it looked like the need for nuclear deterrents weren’t needed, now such statements look silly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please explain how a UK nuclear deterrent would be useful against Russia now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------Are you for real? The fact that other countries have nukes maybe the only reason why Russia haven’t used theirs. Should we just ignore the constant threats of nuclear attacks coming out of Russia?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please explain why Russia would have wanted to use its nuclear arsenal in Ukraine if the UK had no nuclear deterrent.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ve never said he’d use them on Ukraine, I’m saying he could use them on the rest of Europe especially the U.K. due to sanctions, which they have threatened to do.

I remember (might have been Joe) watching a piece where a journalist interviewed a range of people (vox pops) in a Tory stronghold, with a host of potential policies for the country.

Every interviewee was warm and appreciative to the proposals, until the very end when they were revealed as socialist policies set out by Corbyn's Labour party.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That, in a nutshell, is the issue. People are entrenched in supporting 'a side' rather than go with the policies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We wouldn't be able to show our face at the NATO Christmas party...awks!

But in all seriousness, nukes are a statement of strength that plays a part in how countries act.

Openly stating you would not be prepared to push the button totally undermines the position of strength.

You turn up to a gun fight with a gun, not a knife.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t think many, if any, of us know enough about the factors involved politically with regards to nuclear deterrents outside of theory /conjecture.

Personally I just find it astounding that no-one globally has gone off the deep end and hit the button. I feel the same with hackers and completely breaking global systems, how that hasn’t happened yet is beyond me.

I think its simple. Sane leaders will never press that button first.

Anyone mad enough to do so, would be even madder to aim them at a country also nuked up because they know obliteration would follow.

If you are in a fight, and you are mad enough to do so even when out numbered, you pick on the weak guy first.

But fancy having a leader who in the face of a bunch of nukes heading our way would not press the button.

Hackers are more likely to be the future weapons of mass destruction, Just think what a total shut down of the internet would do to the world, even just for a day. Almost every function is fecked in an instant. My wife and kids lose it when i have to reboot it for 5 minutes ! Often leads to WWIII in my household.

Yeah a very fair point. I think if you can get a well functioning government running these things then to me that seems much better than being privately run and people being gauged for money.

In Canada it's run by the government and I pay about $25-30 a month for my heat, electricity & hot water combined while I see people back home are paying in 3-400 pounds

The latter hasn't happened because companies and security services go to extraordinary lengths to prevent it from happening.

A bit like the millennium bug, these things don't just "never materialise" loads of work is done to prepare for and prevent it.

Im sorry, But can't you actually remember why so many people, especially in the Red Wall constituencies voted Conservative in the last election?

Kind of ironic you're bemoaning tribalism then go on to imply it's the majority of the left's fault.

There's just as many on both sides who don't care what happens as long as their team wins.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Look at (aside from me speaking to the facking bigoted moron Saka) those throwing insults on this forum, it's a vast majority of those on the left side of the spectrum who think they have the divine right to have an opinion and others don't.

I'm not going to pretend there aren't those on all sides doing it, but everywhere you look on this forum insults are thrown from the left side far more so than the right side.

And the funny thing is, they are twisted enough to be able to justify it to themselves as morally righteous
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There’s a fundamental semantic distinction between arguing that:

- Nobody is allowed to have a differing opinion (and I don’t see anyone at all arguing this, here or elsewhere on the site), and

- Certain opinions are unsubstantiable or nonsensical or divisive or dangerous or otherwise dogshiiiiit opinions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because many on here think the latter is true of any opinion that doesn't match theirs - literally the definition of bigotry.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Exactly my observations about most/any political debate on this forum, which reflects most social media platforms in general.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ignacio Varga is promoting murder on another thread of Bojo so what does that tell you. The wonderfully tolerant left.

I don't think he would use them, well I hope not, but you've got to be prepared just in case. None of us know if the rumours are true about his health, he certainly seems mentally unstable. The bombing of schools, shopping centres, and hospitals proves to me he doesn't give a fig about civilians.
