Blackpool friendly

Nice stadium York have got themselves and club back on the up again.

Was impressed by our first team although I’m not sure that was Blackpool first team starting the game so not too much can be taken by it. Players seemed fit and committed and a good team press was evident which is something we seemed to lack since bielsa left.
Defensively despite us controlling the ball and posession still looked frail at times particularly on Firpo a side and a couple of rash missed tackles led to dangerous attacks. Firpo going forwards was decent.
Defence still don’t win enough headers from balls they should be winning.
Not impressed by Rodrigo who was attempting blind passes to nowhere too often. Also thought was 1/2 yard off pace. A couple of decent long passes but got caught in posession or mis controlled a few times and he looks to have a booking in him attempting recovery lunges. The other 8 were very good. Greenwood started very bright but drifted out of game. Joffy was a bully. Gray is a very exciting prospect. So intelligent and if he keeps progressing could make it to the top.
Game went a bit stale after all the changes with the U23s playing posession football without really going anywhere although nice finish from the lovely Mateo and he really does enjoy scoring goals.

One question - where was Patrick Bamford!

I wasn't at the game so can only talk on the live coverage, I said on the post that a couple of times Firpo was beaten but overall I thought he was excellent. Much better than Davis who replaced him.
Also thought Struijk and Koch look excellent in front of Meslier.
Bamford played in the behind closed doors game against Stoke I hear so no surprise he wasn't there yesterday.
Good start to pre-season.

From what I saw on tv I thought Gray was excellent and in Roca looks like we have a player who can play the Philips role and pick a pass as well. A couple of tackles might have earned him a booking but they were mostly after him miscontrolling the ball. Hopefully that won’t happen too much when the rust wears off.

The commentator said first half was virtually Blackpools full strength team.

We need to remember that Archie is only 16 and that whist he has DNA second to none we musn't get carried away.
Interesting comment from the commentary team, at the Arsenal game he was required under FIFA rules to have his own dressing room and got changed in an interview room. I assume that the rules for him are different now, though legally he is still a child.
I felt he was more than a little impetuous at times, committed a lot of fouls and wouldn't get away with half what he got away with in a proper match. The ref let a lot slip. Amari Miller was fouled every time he went near the ball.

There are three Grays on the books at Leeds, love to see them all come through.
