All views are, of course, based on it being our first pre season friendly and as such was to get some match fitness through the whole squad, nuture our brand abroad, and allow Conte to assess what he has.

So:
1. Our front line is fine. Richarlison looked to slot in well, giving us a similar 4 from 3 option for the season that Liverpool have enjoyed these last few years.

2. Our midfield still lacks ( and needs ) a player who can control the tempo and find a pass.

3. Our defense is still our biggest problem. We clearly cannot rely on Sanchez and need at least one more quality CB and, if I am being critical, probably quality WB's on both sides.

4. Hugo still has positional awareness problems. Their third goal, whilst well struck, should never have passed Hugo that easily. I could clearly see the obvious gap the attacker had to aim at, so why couldn't he ?

That said, I thought we played what appeared to be a reasonable opposition, quite well, given our first match since May.

Oh and as a minor irritating point, I see the Beeb have totally ignored this game, whilst still running item after item on the Utd / Liverpool friendly. I don't particularly care if Simon Stone needs to keep justifying his existence, but like everyone else I pay my licence fee and am quite right to expect a more balanced sports page contents.

It's the first match of pre season. Spurs won, but other than the PR, just a training session.

Is it me or does Gil look like he's got something we don't have elsewhere in the squad. He moves like Modric but obviously don't want to heap pressure on him. I'd keep him or at least loan him to an English club so we can see how he looks in this league. No gain from sending him back to Spain.

Gil looks decent. He's stronger on the ball than a few players in the prem its just he looks puny. Technique will always defeat brawn in ball retention. Look how easy it is to take the ball off Tanganga and Sanchez

We also have to remember the conditions, I used to live in the Far East and the climate is hot and invariably humid. Players can easily lose a lot of weight by fluid loss during a game. In Singapore when I played, we were under lights and rarely kicked off before 8pm.
