I hate to say it but it is the truth. I love the idea of FDJ reuniting with ETH, but at what cost? United are being made to look like absolute mugs by a club in dire financial situation that should be desperate to sell.
This is even before we consider the possibility of utd getting screwed over and end up not being able to get FDJ with little time left or alternatives
I really don't understand why we cannot put a deadline on this types of deals.Take it or leave it. As much as I love FDJ, he is not the only cm that can play his role. I hate this fixation on a single player we always have that leads to us looking desperate and ultimately being mugged off.

Reports today suggesting Barça are asking Frenkie to accept a 40% pay cut
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If he wants to stay there that much he probably will accept it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Or he can just tell them to feck off and pay his wages in full the next four years.
Apparently he'll be due almost EUR90m...

I suspect this is only going to get resolved when Barcelona have to register their players with the league.

Yeah, either La Liga are going to have to break - not even bend - their own rules, which would be quite uncharacteristic of them and no doubt lead to all kinds of formal protests being made by other clubs; or Barça are going to have to cough up what they owe to force him out.
The only other possible option is for them to shift a shiiiiitload of other players, but I just don’t see how they’re going to be able to do that, not least because they’ll have the same issue that they have with Frenkie (in the deferred wages) with the likes of Depay, Pjanic, Dembele, Umtiti, etc.

We don’t know what’s really going on, so it’s hard to comment on whether we are “desperate”.
FDJ is clearly key to ETH’s plans and if the club feel we can make the signing they should be trying.
Whether it’s down to FDJ not wanting to sign for us, not wanting to leave Barca or being unwilling to accept a deal in wht Barca owe him, we don’t know.

On a less depressing note, Alvaro Fernandez has gone to Preston on loan. That looks like a decent move for all parties and a sensible move from the club.

Looks a fine player. Maybe should be wide forward. Bale lite

Links to Milinkovic-Savic would soften the blow if you could get him. The guy is built for the Prem

Yeah it'll be interesting to see how they use him at Preston. What little I've seen of him at youth level, he was getting forward a lot

FDJ needs to stand his ground and get paid. Then remain at Barca and do a half assed job for a season seeing as Barca are happy to pay half his wages

His annually salary rises each year to cover the deferred money.
If he leaves, he doesnt receive the raise.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes that’s exactly the point. But it’s not a raise, it’s recouping what is owed.
