According to the Athletic they’re not particularly close. The CL isn’t the be all and end all but I guess we’re not exactly a guarantee of playing in it every season like Chelsea or Barca are so he probably is hedging his bets

Even if FdJ is close to EtH I can imagine most players want to broaden their knowledge of the game and work under a few different coaches and Tuchel is one of the best around.

He’d be great for Chelsea as part of their back 7 under Tuchel.

Should have clarified that it wasn't my hope

It was part of the narrative at the start of the window that de jong might sign because he had a previous successful working relationship with ten hag
