ETH > Poch

United fans: we don't want Poch. He's a loser. He's a bottler. ETH is million times better etc etc.

Erm ok...

Poch would have sorted out your squad by now. Got rid of bad eggs and given you an identity and utilised your youth players much better.

There was a reason that SAF rated him so highly and tried to tap him up many times.

Deluded, arrogant fans.

Man Utd is simply a name now.

Too early to judge Ten Hag but he's been a disaster so far

I think there was a level of naivety with ETH bringing in Martinez to play in the most physical league in the world among many things I have spotted already.

Someone lile Poch would have known better. The question would poch have also received the players he needed?

No Poch is not as passive as Ten Hag.

He reminds me of Nuno.

That's why red flags were sounding for Levy.

Levy gets a lot wrong but he called this one correct.

Yeah, I'm furious that Ten Hag has failed to completely rebuild the club after two games of his first season.

I'd forgotten how many utter bells you get on here

Martinez looks like wee Jimmy Krankie in this league - absolutely mental purchase from United.

United should have moved heaven and earth for Rice and then looked for decent Prem defenders that you can at least depend on whilst rebuilding, players at clubs who will sell - Guehi, Konsa, Cucurella

Yeah I'm furious that Martinez has played in a whole two games and hasn't shown his best form yet.

What has that got to do with the point I made?

It took Poch a good half a season to really impose his own philosophy, fitness demands, style of play etc at Spurs.

We were riddled with bad eggs at that time but he started with a clean slate before judging for himself and ridding the club of the likes of Adebayor, Capoue and Paulinho as well various other players who he deemed not capable of meeting his demands eg Lennon, Holtby, Soldado and a few others. There were some wobbly results during that period but he did manage to galvanize the team in time to reach the League Cup final and finish 5th after a good late run.

He was given time by Levy even though you felt at times his finger might’ve been hovering over the trigger. Second season he brought in Alderweireld, Dele, Son and took us to a record PL finish for us of 3rd. Season after that, 2nd. Two years later a CL final and into a new stadium.

The caveat is by the end he was utterly burnt out having given 5 years of blood sweat and tears to a significant project and just falling short of the ultimate prize. I do not believe he has ever recovered from that burn out and I don’t think Utd now would be getting the Poch that did such a fine job at Spurs when he walked in fresh faced back in 2014.

The key is to afford ETH the freedom to make his own decisions, assess the players, make his own mistakes and trust enough that he’s the right man. He’s not gonna bring the glory days back in one season and just because the green shoots of recovery aren’t visible after 2 games doesn’t mean it’s time to give up. If there’s no progress by Easter it’s a different conversation.

I think we're more likely to see Poch at the Etihad rather than OT.
