Leeds Utd v Everton Matchday Thread

Welcome to the Matchday Thread and hopefully a chance to put behind us that rather dismal showing down on the South coast
I don't have any feelings either way about Everton but their manager boils my pi$$ and I'd like nothing better than to see us give him a good hiding

Venue...Elland Road...Date...30th Aug...Kick Off...2000hrs

Team News
Leeds United
Leeds will monitor striker Patrick Bamford, who is close to a return after missing two league games with a groin issue.

Club captain Liam Cooper suffered a minor calf problem when making his comeback from injury against Barnsley last week and faces a late fitness test.

Junior Firpo, Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas remain sidelined.

Everton
Everton defender Mason Holgate injured his knee on Saturday and misses out.

New signing Neal Maupay is available for his debut after joining from Brentford.

This game will come too soon for striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is nearing a return from a knee problem, while Yerry Mina, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Ben Godfrey and Andre Gomes are also still missing.

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head
Leeds have not won a top-flight home match against Everton since beating them on 19 December 2001, when Robbie Fowler scored twice in a 3-2 victory.
After 36 league visits to Elland Road without a victory, Everton have won two of their past four away games at Leeds.

Leeds United
Leeds United are vying to win their opening three home fixtures in a top-flight season for the first time since 1973-74, a campaign which saw them crowned champions.
They last won three consecutive Premier League home games (at any point during a season) in 2001.
The Whites have lost only four of their last 14 league fixtures, with those defeats against Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Brighton.
Leeds have won 49% of their Premier League games on a Tuesday, their highest win rate on a specific day of the week in the competition.
Rodrigo is looking to become the first Leeds player to score in their first three home games of a top-flight season since Lee Chapman in 1992.

Everton
Everton have made their worst start to a top-flight season for 12 years.
The Toffees have gone four matches without a win from the beginning of a Premier League campaign for the third time - they went 12 fixtures without winning in 1994-95 and six games in the 2010-11 season.
Frank Lampard has won his last three matches as a manager against Leeds, including his first Everton victory, a 3-0 triumph at Goodison Park in February.
Anthony Gordon has had 11 of Everton's 23 shots on target in the Premier League this season.

Well for me this is bounceback time a perfect opportunity for the Lads to show what they can do going out on a super optimistic limb with this one and predicting 3-0 to the Mighty Whites with Aaronson (1) and Rodders (2) but I don't really care as long as we WIN!!!

Over to You.....................Predictions etc......................................

Come Onnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeds!!!

Can we say that Rasmussen did well tonight. I think he’s been terrific.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not for me. He’s meant to be a marauding full back but Offered nothing going forward, and got done in the first half…Albeit up against a quality player. Better defensively after the break but needs to up his game for me.

Adams was great today.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ras saved a certain goal in case you have forgotten.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well the ball hit him in the head from point blank range yeh. He’s not doing it for me yet, marschian but fingers crossed he comes good.

Look, im just going to go ahead and say it.

I'm not warming to Kristensen, every other one of the new signings started has shown at least something yet he has been nothing but a downgrade on ayling.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Llorente to blame for their goal but Kristensen should have prevented the chance from developing.

Patience, Milky, he’s one of us and he was in the right place at the right time.

We look so susceptible when oppositions counter on the break.

We deserved no more than a point tonight.

We work hard but dont appear to be able to put a killer ball in the box. Jack wasnt getting passed often and his corners were woeful.

Aaronson just kept running into people and was responsible for their disallowed goal.

Last two games have been dusappointing

Anyway cheers High, Lads and Lasses.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, you’re right insofar as if you’re not good enough to score more than the opposition, you don’t deserve 3pts. That’s indisputable. But depressing…

I suppose 8 points from 5 games is not bad but I think it is evident that we really could do with a Mitrivitch type forward to turn these frustrating draws into wins.
I still hope the owners can pull a rabbit out of the hat and sign us a new striker before the window closes, even if that means losing James to Spurs.
Also I think Everton are not as rubbish as people say and defensively they will not concede many and when Calvert Lewin and Maupy start firing I think they will comfortably survive even if Gordon goes to Chelsea as is expected.

Another disappointing game after the Chelsea win! Frank Lampard always seems to know how to play against us, but at least they didn’t win and it wasn’t 2 losses in a row - that would have really dented their confidence.

It would be brilliant if we sign a striker and/or a LB before the deadline, but I don’t have much faith in Radz & co. They don’t want to spend any ACTUAL money!

I shall be on a plane when we play Brentford but I shall have my fingers crossed for a win.

Agree on Koch. Can't wait for him and Struijk to be the starting CBs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I said at the start of last season that Koch and Struijk w should be out starting partnership. Injuries prevented it. But it’s got to happen.

Never ever agreed with the hype around Llorente. He’s always been our worst of the 4.

I thought Ramus had a great second half. He’s work in progress I think. Big heart but lacks a bit of quality at times.

For me, Adams and Roca were superb tonight. Aaronson tried to make things happen but just couldn’t for some reason.

Harrison good again apart from his corners.

I’m not sure why we play so narrow though. At times it’s frustrating to see gaps out wide with no player running into them. I also think it doesn’t help Harrison when we have taken a yard off each side of the pitch.

Another point towards safety but I can see this team developing into a decent side.

I disagree.

There were times last season where Struijk was easily our worst defender by quite a margin

However in many ways that actually makes me like him more. Cause you can see it in his game how hard he has worked to get himself back into form.

There are two things that you see with him when he plays at fullback

1) despite it not being his position he tries to play like a leftback does, which might be an odd thing to say, but he is a pure centreback trying to do the right things there and that helps his game.

2) the defensive stuff he does out there will work much better when he goes back into the centre.

At the moment he looks like a good centreback who is trying to be a good lectback... mainly because that is what he is.

But standing where the manager tells you where to stand in training isint exactly a skill.

The rest if his actually footballing tonight was sub-par.

Honestly, to me he looks like the sort of player who fans will allow to get away with being sub-par because he looks like a bit of a shīťhouse and comes to us with a reputation for being hard.

He has not been a good signing thus far
