Liverpool Team News

Curtis Jones and Joel Matip have been involved in training ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Newcastle United as Jürgen Klopp sees ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ regarding injury concerns.

The pair were pictured out on the pitches at the AXA Training Centre during Monday’s session as the Reds prepare for another home Premier League encounter following last weekend’s 9-0 defeat of AFC Bournemouth.

Wednesday’s visit of the Magpies will come too soon for Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota, but the manager was also able to report positive news on their recoveries, as well as Caoimhin Kelleher and Calvin Ramsay.

“I think Diogo can train from Thursday on and Thiago I think slightly later, so we will see," Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.

“Calvin is getting closer, Caoimh I saw now only walking outside going for normal goalkeeper training. So yeah, there’s light at the end of the tunnel, definitely."

The meeting with Newcastle marks the final match of Darwin Nunez’s three-game suspension in the league due to his red card against Crystal Palace. Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konate and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remain sidelined with injury.

Newcastle could definitely have taken all 3 points tonight if they'd gone for it as well.

Nah...if they did that then they would be wide open. Only reason they stayed in the game was because they stayed compact all game.

Ah so carvalho is the new youth player who is meant to save us when seasoned league winning professionals are struggling....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's a match winner. Just watching the way he has played in preseason will tell you that

Not that I want to gloat or anything, but this kid is special and will win points as proven tonight. As I said, Pre-Season showed it.

I think he'll be the biggest bargain so far this century in a couple of years.

Lets hope Southgate caps him before Portugal do. That way his replacement will get the best out of him.

Sighs loudly...

Carvalho is a real gem.

Not only gifted with the ball at his feet, but humble and willing to learn and listen. You can’t teach that and we are very lucky to have him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
“Humble”? Now you’re talking bollcocks did you hear him dismiss Newcastle in his interview?

Would rather he isn't converted into a left back by a defensive bore like Southgate. Hopefully Portugal get him.

I heard an interviewer obviously trying to goad a young player into criticising Newcastle’s tactics and time wasting antics but he steered clear.

I’m sure after he’s a little more used to microphones after games he’ll get better at answering questions but i thought he did ok.
