Looking around at the reaction from our transfer window there is a lot of disappointment in the way our squad is looking, in particular our defence.
However, I don't think that people realise how good a back 3 of Romero, Dier and Lenglet could actually be! And I really trust Conte to get the most out of these 3.
As is always the way with social media, it is always the vocal, overly-emotional minority that tends voice their opinion giving the impression that this is the sentiment of the entire fanbase and I am keen to know what the more rational fan makes of our window and the defensive options.
I personally think that the overall transformation needs to happen over 3 to 4 windows with a lot of coaching and a sprinkle of good luck. Otherwise I just can't see us getting to the level of Man City. So I am not panicking yet.
What are we thinking? Is this window a massive let down or is this a great continuation from where we left of last season?

What is a let down is that we've signed Richarlison for alot of money and he's playing very well yet Conte won't start him for a desperately out of form Son.
I know we've got alot of games in a very short space of time leading up to the world Cup and he will get his opportunity but had he started at West Ham we would have had a much better chance of taking all the points.
Conte now has a much higher quality squad then when he arrived so he needs to use it also he seems to have forgotten how well Doherty was playing before his injury.

Agree entirely!
If he doesn't start against Fulham I'll be annoyed
Not digging out Son by the way, he's incredible, but it isn't happening fof him right now and Richy looks bang up for it. Give him a start, it's why we bought him

Personally I would like to see a back three of Romero, Sanchez and Lenglet. Dier and Davies as backups are OK, but not really good enough to be first picks every game.

No Sandy. What is your fascination with Sanchez? I couldn’t careless about the clean sheet stat you are going to give me, he just isn’t good enough and can’t play out from the back. Dier, Lenglet and Romero for now and next season we replace Dier with Bastini

Don, I think we will just to have to agree to disagree with you on Sanchez. I think he is fine, whilst you think he is a complete donkey. Dier is OK as a back up, but is like a snail when moving with the ball.

Not saying Dier is great either. Both are still not good enough for me, but Dier for me is slightly more solid.

defensively I think all our back line are pretty damn solid in this setup. With the ball and playing out Dier & Sanchez fall short. Davies aint great either but he does get forward well, combines good with the LWB. Lenglet will be better at bringing the ball out and passing but not sure he's gonna do the overlapping forward runs Davies does, or the last ditch tackles and blocks of Davies. Fulham might be a good chance to try him as we can expect them to sit back a bit more.

Dier is awful. Never puts his body on the line like Romero or Sanchez even. Cannot sniff out danger. Look how easy he made it for Antonio to control the ball and lay it off to Soucek the other day.
I bet that cb dwarf Utd have got would have made it harder for him.
And they are talking about him for England 🤡😁

Very harsh assessment.

Dier is fine in a back three and even better when he has Romero to his right .
Hopefully lenglet will get a start over next couple of games think those three could become the mainstay of our defence for most of the season .
Nothing against Sanchez and Davies they are very able and reliable to play games when needed.
But long term Romero dier lenglet with Spence on the right wing pericic on the left gives us a decent looking back line . With both wing backs offering something different.

I cannot remember seeing these three playing together as yet?
The defences we have put out so far have included Sanchez and Davies, neither of whom I rate as good enough.
Yes we had a couple of clean sheets but we should have gotten 3 pts at Forest.
And when has Lenglet played?
And who is Dier's cover if he gets injured?
