Derby County 2 - 3 Plymouth Argyle

DERBY COUNTY v PLYMOUTH ARGYLE League 1 #7

Saturday 3 Sept. Pride Park Stadium 3.00pm

Another game at Pride Park - another chance to continue the impressive sequence of results - not all of them convincingbut hey ho.

A good transfer deadline day has seen us retain the services of Bird, Sibley and Knight. And a couple players brought in.

Tuesday night v Grimsby looked reassuring, albeit against lower league opposition. Derby looked comfortable and things seem to gelling together. For the first time, for those of you Faithful from afar, there does seem to be a buzz and enjoyment around the area.

Win on Saturday - convincingly then we are looking good and settled, however Plymouth are already there and about and look a solid side. And what I don't like is that Derby are clear favourites to win.

Am I pi55ing in the wind? ........ EFL? Quantuma? Anyone? Is that it - they're done?

First XI: Wildsmith (GK), Forsyth, Hourihane, Cashin, Barkhuizen, Bird (C), Collins, McGoldrick, Mendez-Laing, Stearman, Knight.

Subs: Loach (GK), Roberts, Thompson, Sibley, Dobbin, Osula, Rooney.

Wise words, Scouse, and succinctly put.

Just hearing that Johnson and Truss will travel to Balmoral at different times tomorrow. What climate emergency you may say!

I’d make them both suffer the Avanti West Coast emergency timetable. They’d arrive about Thursday teatime.

Been catching up on the evening's comments.
Just how many times did Osula miscontrol the ball then?
I havent watched the 2nd half, but I was under the impression that he didnt have much service, as we had so little possession.
Even if it was a handful, that's a fairly small sample to make a conclusion and condemn a 19 yo for the rest of his career.
PS. If so have problems with his surname, VC, just call him Will. I'm sure you'll be able to remember that

In football you do get a second chance to make a first impression. His control didn't look good on the few occasions he received the ball. He may be only 19 but he is being paid to play football. I would have expected better control from a forward. He will get more chances to show what he can do before the end of his loan period.

I have not condemned him, I commented that his first touch was poor. I will call Will Will so I don't get him mixed up with the reserve full back whose name I've also forgotten. It must be an age thing.

All in all I think the game was won and lost in midfield. Plymouth just flooded through our midfield - especially 2nd half ....where we traditionally (well this season) tend to run out of steam. It put all the pressure on the defence - who just cracked in the end.
I think maybe we missed JK38's energy in midfield - as admirably as he's playing at FB. Equally LR's subs didnt work out this time , and they actually weakened us rather than strengthened.
Anyway, onwards and upwards. Cheers. Terry. UTR

I thought Plymouth looked strong in midfield in the first half but their two central defenders really struggled against McGoldrick and NML. When we removed McGoldrick they must have sighed with relief.

Their first goal was the break they needed. Normally those shots in to a crowded area don't deflect and stop just in front of an attacker 5 yards from goal.

Their second goal was well worked and their winner was a sequence of errors, not just Cashin's, although his was the biggest error. We shouldn't really have been committing players up front like we were 1 2 down with minutes to go. .
