So Tuesday/Wednesday night's under the lights are back. All that end of season sweating, hoping, can we overtake "them down the road" questions, and ultimate joy when the job was done, has lead us to tomorrow's game.
Personally, I can't wait to hear the theme tune again.
So, a few thoughts.
1. Are we in a good place atm. Well, the vast majority of so called experts predicted Spurs finishing 3rd this season. And we are currently third ( no we aren't Liverpool, so not joint second ) so exactly where we are supposed to be. Most fans will agree we had a, not spectacular transfer window, but were very solid in terms of getting in quality in most areas needed, and now clearly have some real squad depth.
2. The last time we were in the CL ( March 2020 ) our team against RB Leipzig was:
Ali
Lucus Lamela
Sessegnon Lo Selso Winks Aurier
Toby Dier Tanganga
Hugo
Even the most blinkered, negative fan MUST see the obvious difference in the quality that night to the team we will probably put out tonight. I don't know who was on the bench that night, but again, you would expect at least 4/5 choices tomorrow that will be able to come on and not dilute the overall quality of the team.
3. Just a final word of caution.
Our opponents are Marseille, who where drawn from pot 4, and therefore
technically the weakest team in the group. Don't take this as a given. Seeding regularly throws up teams playing much better than their current co efficient scores. We ourselves where in pot 3 when we first got into the CL in 2010 under Harry, and went on to the Quarters, finally getting schooled by far more experienced Real Madrid.
For those who don't look past the PL, a quick look at the French top division, and you will see Marseille sitting in second place, with 16 points from their first 6 games, only behind PSG on goal difference.
The french league cannot be described as a weak league, so the team must be focused and respect the opposition from the start. Conte will surely ensure that is the case.
For me, a bit into the unknown, as don't watch French footie, but it is great to be back in the competition every top club wants to be part of.

UEFA must be gutted Spurs qualified ahead of Arsenal.
We would have brought some much needed buzz and attention to this failing competition.

Good one. I think our world class stadium and a manager like Conte plus internationally recognisable players like Kane and Son, all under the CL lights is much more preferable to UEFA in terms of brand appeal.
Arsenal in the dreary morgue of the Emirates with a few Man City cast offs that nobody cares about is much less appealing and more suited to the Europa League.

Arrogance of Spurs fans is unbelievable these days. You'd think they'd just won the league or something. Getting all loud about 'We are in the UCL' but the reality is they'll crash out of it and have about as much relevance to the overall competition as a team like Genk. Spurs are there to be the whipping boys, not real competition, and ultimately you're just there to make up numbers.
It's like Yeovil being excited to be in the FA cup 3rd round or something.

We were the first English side to even win the UCL!! That's prestige and that's juggernaut status right away. We also won it as part of a treble THAT HAS NEVER BEEN REPEATED. Not even mentioning number 3, I don't need to, we are a juggernaut.
Liverpool have 6 but our 3 were more important and meaningful. They won a load in the 80s when the competition was terrible.
