I think Emerson has improved since last season, but I think most of us will agree that he’s not (yet) quite what we need in the RWB role.
Most of the fans sitting around me at each home game just look at each other in exasperation (and express a few expletives!) whenever he gets the ball out wide in a forward position and then (predictably) fails time and time again to deliver a quality ball into the box.
It was very noticeable how Kulusevski significantly improved our attacking threat when he came on in place of Emerson last night and with Perisic delivering quality balls from the left, the wing back system (which we rely on heavily for our creativity) started to bare fruit.
I think we’ll need Emerson for his defensive qualities against City at the weekend but beyond that I would really like to see Spence given a chance (I’m not too convinced by Doherty either). Hopefully Spence will continue to work hard in training and will grab any opportunities that he’s given with both hands and eventually force Conte to start picking him over Emerson/Doherty.
Anyone agree?

Yet Doherty did well at the end of last season before his injury
Think he should have a run of 3-4 games see how he gets on (but not until after the City game! )

As you said I think Royal is in there for his defensive capabilities, Conte sees him as a safe option, we have better attacking option's in Doherty and indeed Spence, but Conte will always go with the safe option

Kulusevski replaced Emerson for all of about 10 minutes last night. Unfortunately I lost my stream for pretty much that exact period so can't really comment on how that 10 minutes went, and I'm not even sure if he truly took up a rwb position. Even if he has the defensive attributed required (which seems unlikely), there's no way for me he's fast enough to do that role other than like a few minutes in a complete emergency.
It's difficult to know what to do with Emerson, because of course you're right about his delivery, yet for me he's actually our best defender.

Admittedly I was in the stand so did not have the benefit of TV analysis etc. But Kulusevski came on at a time when Kane, Son and Richarlison were on the pitch, so it appeared to me as Kulu was fulfilling the RWB role. It's interesting what you say about it just being for 10 minutes. I remember commenting to my mate (who agreed with me) following one of Kulu's early attacks that he had done more offensively in a couple of minutes than Emerson had done for the whole 60 mins that he was on the pitch!

Actually just checking there was 25 minutes (not 10) between Deki coming on and Doherty coming on, so it was a fair while.

I think its tough to do a Kulu vs Emerson comparison as the former played his RWB stint against a tired 10 men as opposed to 11.
Royal has definitely improved this season and while he still isnt top quality, he is very solid defensively and is providing more quality up front.
