When Pep leaves

Will he leave a vacuum the type Sir Alex left when he left United? We know money cant fix everything as we have see United spend more but struggle with 5 managers each spending a load of money and not achieving anything in the process.

The setup of a football club is important and hence managers like Pep and Klopp have done so well because of the support staff but Pep is an elite manager and if a succession plan is not put in place a very dark period could follow.

Watching Tuchel lose the plot this season made me appreciate even more that for all the stick Pep gets (from Evra ) about not managing characters, big players or not being loved, as a Top end manager who puts the team first Pep is a bit of a genius.

As a manager at work I couldn't give 2 sheits about being popular or loved by my support staff. I want self motivated, confident, hungry support staff who put the company performance above their pride or personal goals as long as they work in terms of their contract. You watch Tuchel melt down, who is a bit of a Pep disciple but with less emotional intelligence. Pep also does pamper to specific players, You can see he is trying to she horn Bernardo and Gundo to keep them happy whilst risking upsetting a Mahrez. He will still have to deal with 5 fit CBs and all wanting to play at some point but he has managed to keep the bulk of the squad happy whilst prioritising the team

Its not an easy task. Klopp is well loved but even he is struggling with some players such as Ox and Keita or even Mane who probably felt under appreciated and asked to leave.

Looks like he upset Sterling but fack Raz if he doesnt have the minerals to fight for his place. Should the manager drop Foden to keep Sterling happy. Made that mistake in the CL Final and the team suffered for that.

6 years into this gig but the level of emotional intelligence, non-verbal intelligence, flexibility, respect, honesty and focus he has shown in driving this club will be difficult to replicate.

He is Elite!

He will leave a hole just not as big as Fergie left

Ferguson was United , top to bottom , pep hasn’t been at city long enough nor will he be to leave the same emptiness

Plus if you factor in city can spend endless amounts of money on players and wages even a manager two tiers below city would do well enough to challenge for everything

I realise could throw the money argument at United too as they aren’t skint but clearly have made more mistakes since Fergie in the transfer market where as city tend to get things right on that score

I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a drop off when he leaves but not to the extent of United.

City are a far better ran club and won titles under the two previous inferior managers.

It’s easier to get it right if you keep the manager longer, support him and buy the players that suit his style of play.

It’s really not that complicated

Problem is the inferior managers that could challenge for everything, chances are they don’t stay long enough to have a chance of being successful

Stupid to compare Pep’s situation to Tuchel’s. If there’s a player Pep doesn’t get on with then that player is gone. At Chelsea managers don’t get that level of backing so of course it eventually blows up

The comparison is perfect because Tuchel is supposedly an elite manager and Chelsea are a Top club. Unless one or both of those are incorrect.

Which is weird hey.

Tuchel and Poch are supposedly elite managers but Football owners are willing to let them both go and bring inferior managers in.

Must tell you something is wrong Tewmperamentally with both. I can cut Poch some slack.

But poor old Tuchel pushed out by player power again. It only just happened 2 years ago at PSG

Was Tuchel pushed out by player power? Genuine question as the only report I’ve read (can’t remember where) is that he fell out with the new owner

The fact he is a new owner and wouldn’t want to be challenged so early would be the reason he probably lost his job

The way he behaved in the Tottenham match too showed he was a man under pressure and or not happy with what the new boss was outlining

I also read Tuchel was against signing Ronaldo but the new guy wanted him….again another cross of swords

Not sure Tuchel was anything to do with player power but happy to be proved otherwise as players these days have way too much power!

I can't imagine they will fall as hard as United but I also can't imagine they'd be as successful. Pep is a special manager.

It will depend on their recruitment but their ability to spend should keep them in and around the top for a while. The thing is the competition has changed since Fergie. Since he retired City became a force, Spurs got better, Liverpool got better. Whenever Pep retires Newcastle should be a force by then, hopefully Spurs too. You just never know how much football can change.

Sir Alex?
Didn’t get past that bit

If City ownership pays attention then a proper transition plan should be a priority, a plan that is probably now being quietly discussed behind closed doors with the interests of both parties being a priority. In the meantime, enjoy what you have got!
