Leicester v Forest - Match Thread

Ok...let's all close our eyes and pretend it's the start of the season. Focus the breathing at the tip of your nose and just feel the sensation of your life force coming and going....

Nope...meditation doesn't work for me either.

Last Game Overview:

They came, they saw, we gave it away. I can't even remember the ugliness of the three goals in six minutes.

The Good: Leading.

The Bad: Goals.

The Ugly: Losing

Special Mention: EM for not sacking a winning manager, but taking it out on the hapless Carlos.

Overall Record:

Currently we stand at W40 D27 L40.

Our last win against Leicester was way back in 2013.

Wow, what a year that was. A trip to Europe and the UK (inc. obligatory Forest games), Permanent Residency, a new motorbike, a house move, a new job and the healthiest I had been in a very long time. Pity it all turned to sheet pretty much, but it's all been on the up for the last two years.

Signings:

Mangala and Niakhate to surely return. New signings, might as well be.

Your Opposition Story:

I should have gone to Leicester Uni. I turned it down. I dated a lovely girl from Leicester. I turned it down. Blackstarr will likely post, I'll delete his comments.

Form:

Bottom vs bottom...which would be a rare occurence in this brave new world we live in, but there we have it. They are awful and we are slightly less awful.

Lose this and we go bottom.

Team:

Henderson

Worrall Niakhate McKenna

Aurier Mangala O'Brien Lodi

Dennis Awoniyi MGW

Hennessey, Bade, Williams, Toffolo, Kouyate, Yates, Lingard, Johnson and Surridge.

Prediction:

We'll win this: 3-1!

Cooper has had two weeks to get it right. Yes, we have had players on International duty, but I have a feeling that everyone should have an idea of how we play and what everyone's names are.

Life and watching Forest is about to become joyous once again.

If not? I am sure Derby and Huddersfield will be here to remind us of how losing a PO Final / fiddling the books is the longer, better and more sustainable route to success.

If we win, no need to worry. They will likely be back for the Villa game, sour grapes in hand.

COYRs!!!!!

Chile even financial commentators in the Athletic have come out and said Forests situation is perilous in terms of FFP if they get relegated. In fact even if you stay up it’s unlikely you’ll be spending anywhere near what you have in this window - your owner simply doesn’t have the wealth to do it

Marianakis is worth half of Leicesters owners (who are really not rich in terms of PL owners) and considerably less than clubs likes Wolves for eg

You won’t get £120m of TV money this season, it’s more like £80m if you finish bottom. Your transfer outlay will be financed based on expected TV earnings in the PL over the next 3 years - even with parachute payments the turnover will drop considerably

You won’t get that level of money in parachute payments next season, you’ll be paying for the massive transfer outlay (likely debt financed linked to PL tv money) and you’re not going to be selling your assets for as much as you think. Players will push to leave and clubs will play the game knowing you need to sell

Your turnover to outlay will be assessed and as you’re no longer brining in the level of money you were, FFP will become a problem in the championship where the rules are even stricter. I also think that you are likely spending more on player wages now than an average of £40k per week!! Look at some of the players you’ve signed

Take it from a Leicester fan - no club with such a small turnover spends the amount of money you do, gets relegated and simply doesn’t feel the effect.

I should add if you get promoted back to the PL straight away, you should be able to contain a lot of damage but if you don’t the situation becomes very bleak. You need to hold onto cooper in my opinion to ensure that happens

You only get 2 years of parachute payments if you are relegated first season....3 years if you survive a season like we did

105 million for this season
45 next
22 year after

Your wages alone for this relegation season will be at least 40 million if you include lingards 100k a week

Player sales for those you can get rid of will merely pay off the initial transfer payments which you still owe us 7.5 million for toff/oriental

You will end up in deficit!

We have been in that very position just a couple of years ago

The only way to make money is do like Norwich keep doing and recently sheff utd
Get promoted and don't spend a lot so you have plenty in the bank to remain competitive in the championship and bounce back regularly and keep the coffers topped up!!

Maranakis,s approach is all or nothing

That initial tv money comes to you in instalments over the course of the season

You didn't buy these players in full with cash..you merely put a deposit down on them!

Our fans were the same...yippee were rich...in reality your not

Our chairman explained things to the fans...basically all the money goes to the players in wages/settling contracts when you have to sell them for less money

posted on 5/10/22

So pay 150 million with money you don't have

Sell said players for 150 million

Equals a big fat 0

posted on 5/10/22

Over the last 5 years we have received 280 million in TV money/parachute payments

We are now potless!!...the chairman has to put 5 million of his own money in each season moving forwards to keep us afloat...along with selling our best players

And we didn't spend big in the Premier league

And we decided we didn’t need a sponsor, first season back in the Prem in 23 years, and NO sponsor on the kit, seems crazy to me. Surely a 3 year deal for sponsorship would have brought in a decent sum.
Even if we were to add a sponsor now, we will have already lost a decent sum of cash, and we’re paying the likes of Harry Arter a small fortune to stay away from the club, surely this can’t be good financial business. I am hoping when all this money was spent, long term, the bean counters got all their maths right, taking into account the possibility of relegation. One slight ray of comfort, our top earners, Henderson and Lingard are only on one year deals, with no outlay. That said, it all seems to have gone a bit pear shaped atm.

It’s £1m per match. Which we’ll have at least 15 broadcast. Based on Norwich earning £98.6m last year, that puts us at £110m.

As for player sales, they will have had one season in the EPL and a World Cup…where 10-12 players will feature. That always drives up the price. Plus, we get about £2.5m for them being in the 25-man squads.

£112.5m…plus £57.5m of player sales, if Johnson has a great WC then he’s going to be worth a small fortune. Just because we are poor, doesn’t mean the players are.

Journalists are paid to write. No clicks and it’s out on your ear. You think a semi-sustainable piece would be of interest?

By the way, no emotion here. This is just simple maths.

Waltzing…I think you are wanting to see something that isn’t there. Yes, if we don’t bounce back after the first year we’re in trouble, but it’s October 22, not May 2024.

Plenty of articles out there to back up the figures I’ve quoted. In the meantime…i’m enjoying the ride 👍🏻

French and German leagues don’t pay a lot of money in wages. I reckon £40k on average is about right, considering we only signed a handful of EPL players.

Anyway, let’s all believe what we want to believe. We’ll find out soon enough 👍🏻

I’m not worrying about FFP for now because I’m still confident we’ll be ok. However I think we need to base the team around the team that got us promoted.

The five players who started that game at Wembley and are still here should start against Villa. I.e. Worrall Cook McKenna Yates Johnson in the same formation (plus Surridge for good measure).

Hendo
Worrall. Cook. McKenna
Williams. Yates. Mangala. Toffolo
Johnson. MGW.
Surridge

I wouldn’t mind if we went for a flexible 5-4-1/3-4-3 with the same 11 players
