I'm sorry I cant trust Cancelo

Cancelo like Trent is not a fullback They are both too unbalanced at both ends of the pitch to be called fullbacks in any era. With Trent, the cant defend agenda has obviously been overblown but like a Chelsea fan said to me the other day, no one says Reece James is the best RB in the world so he can get away with sub-par performances.

The same applies to Cancelo who gets away with the most shocking defending and lack of concentration. It's hard for me to call him out over things that Walker used to do as well but the guy will cost us games against top teams with good attackers. At the tail end of last season he made a lot of errors in crucial games in the run in where we were not punished because the teams we faced did not have good attackers.

Yesterday I was not bothered about the penalty, lazy stuff from him but can happen to anyone. But the way he let the runner through for the 2nd goal is so annoying. Honestly, I often wonder why Pep just doesn't haul him off in disgrace.

He can't judge moments and read the room at times. If we had got Cucurella he would be on the bench.

With Walkers consistent injuries we could be having a problem in that area which will see us play CBs in that position which is annoying to.

Rant over.

By the way anyone else think Akanji could just hold on to his starting place throughout this season? He looks like our best CB this season.

I suspect the manager will rotate between league games and CL and cup games. When all CBs are in form I think Stones is our best CB but everytime he has played this season he has looked so rusty. If I had to put money on it, Akanji and Laporte will be our fits choice pair for the big games.

Dias is down in the pecking order unless Akanji is played at right back, a role I think he could do well.

1 of the earlier articles had a go at neville yesterday suggesting utd could win because city caj be got at. Whikst he deserves flack for suggesting a utd win O dont disagree with him on the other point.

This is obvioulsy these full backs are being told to play and city and ourselves are the biggest users of the fullbakcs being pushed on to ridiculous levels at times.

Cant say ive watched all city games, seen a few, newcastle time and time again got behind your fullbacks with their pace out wide and it was left 2 the 2 centre backs to try and rescue things. Palace was similar. Pretty much all our games have been the same. Big difference is that city look like they will score 4 or 5 goals every game wheres we couldnt hit a barn door unless the team are called bournemouth.

Both sides have already conceded 9 this season which is pretty unheard of for both. Suppose it doesnt really matter much to yous at the minute due to your attacking prowess however may prove costly against more astute sides in latter stages of champions league. For us its a different story altogether, its costing us against everyone.

Cancelo is good for our system in 90% of games. Unfortunately there are those where he switches off and ends up costing us, eg Madrid at the Bernabau. And it’s always a concern playing the big teams like Real, Liverpool etc. He’s always a concern in the big games, as is Ederson tbh

10 years ago we had 2 solid FB's in Zabaleta and the criminially underrated Clichy.

Walker was a good repacement on the right but we've struggled on the left - Mendy was a disaster while Zinchenko and Cancelo have just improvised.

I hope Gomez nails down that spot but he needs to prove he can defend as well as go forward.

I wrote the article and you will notice I agreed that we can be got at. I just think its a bit irrelevant in the league as I'm convinced we can outscore anyone. Even if Palace was awarded that so called 3rd goal that people think they were robbed of we would still have beaten palace 5-3

The problem will clearly be in the champions league and thats where Cancelo is a huge accident waiting to happen.

I disagree, with your assessment of Cancelo and Trent its not the positions they are being asked to play. Its how they jog and watch runners run past them. They personally both make me sick when I watch them defend. I cant understand how Pep and Klopp stomach it.

Yeah sorry I re-read that article and saw thats what you said and I think that was my point as well, it probably doesnt matter as much in the league for you guys.

I agree 100% I hate it. I cant speak for cancelo as havent seen as much of him but trent has been shocking on this front but theres times you watch it and you think he has to be being told to do this. Surely by now, certainly in our case, if he was blatantly ignoring his duties hed be hooked regardless of who came in.

Like you say against the better sides it will cost both teams. Weve already been absolutely ripped to shreds by a very good napoli side playing this way.

Pep is playing a high risk, high reward system.
I think he prefers a Roberto Carlos than a Paolo Maldini player right now.
