Can't wait to see Garth Crooks' column

Not my first rant about Crooks and it probably won't be the last, but I just can't stand his Team Of The Week column. It's always the same drivel:

Paragraph 1: Very briefly mention player and their contribution which resulted in their selection. Veer off halfway to rant about the match they were in.

Paragraph 2: Continue ranting about the game or their team generally. The player is long forgotten.

Paragraph 3: Even though it's usually completely unrelated, make it somehow about Arsenal, why he hates them, and give himself an opportunity for a cheap jab.

It'll be interesting to see how he makes anything about Arsenal in this week's riveting read, given that we're the league's form team. In fact, he'll have a wealth of players in red-and-white to choose from 😂

Hafi doesn't like De Gea?

He's done it again

Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)

Four goals in the last three games for Saka. His goal against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League in midweek was impressive but his finish in the win over Leeds was outrageous.

Scoring goals has always been the most difficult objective to achieve on a football pitch - even if it's a penalty. That's why whenever your team is presented with a penalty make sure you give it to someone who knows what he's doing. Your best striker is not always your best penalty taker as Patrick Bamford and Leeds will no doubt testify after his miss from the spot.

And why Gabriel saw his late red card for violent conduct rescinded is a complete mystery because that's what it was - regardless of what the video assistant referee at Stockley park said. There was a time when the referee's decision was final, VAR has changed that.

"Granit Xhaka (Arsenal)

This can't be happening. Granit Xhaka, once the most unpopular player ever in an Arsenal shirt, is scoring goals, Gabriel Martinez and Bukayo Saka are playing out of their skins, the Gunners are still top of the table and can't see anyone stopping them at the moment. It's like a nightmare unfolding in front of your very eyes.

Thank goodness Arsenal are having to play three games a week including European football matches. Fortunately the Saints played the Gunners at the right time. A fresh Arsenal would have destroyed Southampton."

Not too bad this time but not sure who Gabriel Martinez is

Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)

Nottingham Forest came down to earth with a bump at Arsenal, having enjoyed a little of the high life after beating Liverpool last week. The Gunners put five goals past Forest and it could have been 10. At one stage it looked as though Arsenal were making chances at will.

Martin Odegaard strolled around Emirates Stadium conducting most of Arsenal's attacks and looking very composed and cultured while doing it. This victory takes Arsenal back to the top of the league with two games to play before the World Cup break.

With a bit of luck, that should break their momentum.

Crooks was OK this week, so the clown awards go to Richard Keyes

‘Someone please have a word with Mikel Arteta,’ he posted on his website. ‘Right now he’s the most irritating coach of the lot.

‘Sit down man – and if you can’t do that – stay in your own technical area. I say this because someone is going to get hurt soon as a result of his antics.

There are good reasons coaches are asked to stay in their technical areas – safety is one issue. "
