A team full of jigsaws

LC's nickname at Newcastle was Jigsaw. Because he went to pieces in the box. It seems as though this nervousness in and around the box is spreading. Why won't anyone take a shot.

Sounds familiar 38. Stats get used a lot around us. The word meaningless springs to mind about 99% of the time

bradfords antics really got on my nerves. parkinson had charlton do the same. if u go down holding ur head the ref has to stop the game. maybe town players cottoned onto that trick and might have a go themselves whenever they lose the ball!

It was frustrating watching at times and our inability to put teams anyway is going to be our downfall again this season!

For all the slick passing and movement, where was the end product??? Either a cross into the box and no-one was there, or a shot that was well wide, or they would get close to the edge of the box and give it away! Messrs McDermott and Ward guilty of that offence too many times!

McDermott looked unfit and poor throughout! Hes going to struggle to get in the team unless we have a glut of injuries and suspensions in that area!

jimbo..
mcdermott isnt really a wide player..plus we spent most of the game going down wards side of the pitch..

remember how many times pilkington and roberts have become totally lost in games when we just dont play the ball anywhere near them.. they ended up coming inside, like mcdermott did, and then running into the wall of city players down the middle of the pitch.. we stop getting it wide and everyone packs into the middle ... jack hunt thankfully started getting further forward in the wide position but mcdermott is being wasted..

Is he really could enough to cut in the middle though 38???

He aint got any real strength and at times, being a CM, he would need to track back and defend. Leaving Johnson in there isnt really going to cut it.

Are we saying that the only way we can fit him then is by going 4-5-1 and playing him behind the front striker?

he gave us a very hard time playing in centre midfield.. he picks up the ball and runs with it.. he lacks confidence at the moment, but thats nothing new with players brought in by clark..

question is, could he possibly do any less in defence or attack than gobern??

we are at home on saturday, i would give him a start alongside johnson.. he is the extra man going forward that we need..

play arfield wide, he has the legs to cover...

we really do need to get away from this strict positional idea that we seem to have... someone, somewhere in the team has to do something or turn up somewhere on the pitch where they are not expected.. we need a drifter at home if stevenage or others turn up and go defensively against us..

Im not quite sure yet what to make of Gobern. In flashes he looks the business, but in others, he looks a clumsy conference player! I do think he can do both defending and attacking, but he needs to do this better and more consistently.

Arfield should be in the team no question come saturday. You may have a case for McDermott in the middle, but i dont think Lee Clark will go for that. Had McDermott really stood out on tuesday night then maybe, but not after that performance! Whether he should have stayed out wide or come into the middle more often, he didnt play that well when he got on the ball!

We certainly do need to shake things up a little but though for saturday, as we dont want another repeat of our last couple of home games!

Gobern's nothing as of yet.

He does nothing for me.

Im reserving judgment on him until his played a few more games. Hes obviously got something or he wouldnt be at the club so let's give him abit more time!
