Average players still here

I still blame Levy for leaving us with so much average dross stinking out the place. Dier, Emerson, Sanchez, Davies and Doherty none of whom should be anywhere near the starting 11, yet we seem to be playing these clowns on a weekly basis (Sanchez aside). We then wonder why we get battered by United? It’s no surprise With those 3 in defence.

P** poor once again from Spurs going into the season with gaping holes still missing. No creativity either and if Kulusevci is injured, we have literally zero creativity or no player that can pick out a defence splitting pass.

Conte isn’t an angel in all of this either, as i still think he doesn’t rotate anywhere near enough and already you can see the likes of Bentacur, Hojberg, Son and Kane looking shattered because he plays them every single game. He hasn’t utilised the likes of Spence anywhere enough and when you consider how s** Doherty and Emerson are, its truly mind bending how the f** Spence hasn’t been given an opportunity with his pace.

But, it boils down to one thing - Daniel Levy and Co. They never do enough in the market to truly push us for honours and there’s a reason why this club have won a pathetic 1 league cup in 22 years under their leadership. More should have been done this season including a creative midfielder and better defence, yet once again it has been neglected.

We're still paying the price for poor recruitment from before. While I think the signings under Paratici have been overall good, it's the ones under Mourinho and Poch in his last window that have hurt us. It cost a whopping £200m roundabouts and all we currently have to show for it is Sessegnon, PEH and Doherty, as the rest have been got rid of or sent on loan, and it's not like those 3 have been rip roaring successes either.

To me the poor performances at the moment feel like a 50/50 share of the blame between manager and personnel.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Still don’t think we did enough this window Spurtle. Where is the creative midfielder? Why didn’t we properly address a clear weakness at RWB ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don yes we should have got a creative mid. Maddison would have been ideal. I do feel we could have got another striker but we got Richarlison so I'm more willing to let that go.

The RWB position I don't know. I mean Doherty did display good form at the end of last season, and we got a promising youngster in Spence who is never played. This problem feels more on Conte....without knowing more behind the scenes. But there is no reason to not try Spence when he can't be any worse than what's been repeatedly seen from the others.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I like the look of Spence and want him playing, but let’s be honest he was bought as a promising player. There’s our problem as a club. Address our RWB problems with a youngster instead of going all out for Hakimi
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think there's a problem with going for promise rather than someone established, as long as that isn't all you go for, and we needed more English players anyway. There is more work to do with the squad and it was always never all going to be done last summer. We shall see what we do in the next windows.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

None of the younger signings are working out mate. Sessegnon incredibly hit and miss. Gil and Saar don’t look like they will get anywhere and Spence is getting nothing either. Our last success was Dele Ali which was years ago. We rely far to heavily on signing promising players rather than going for proven quality
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sessegnon is ok. Maybe not lived up to expectations but still young enough to get very good. Gil and Saar it's still too early. Spence not getting any chances to prove himself so we don't know how good or bad he is at Spurs.

You forgot Kulu who has done excellently right from the off. Him and Dele are the more rare examples I suppose. Most youngsters are going to need time to get good when it's a new league for them.

Kulu is an exception but techically he is still loan. The worrying thing for me is there are no youth products knocking on the door except for Skipp.

Our youth teams from U21's level to U18 constantly lose games. There is not one player even close to the 1st team. Meanwhile Chelsea and Woolwich are building teams around youth products.

Is that down to us not doing enough, or just bad fortune that none are showing much promise at the moment?

We have to remember that the form of kids can change very quickly. Look at Bale and Kane. They looked average one minute then world class the next. Some may not look great now who can very quickly improve. Not sure if Conte is the man who is going to bring them through though.

Kuluvesci is young, but wasn’t unproven as such. He already played in title winning sides like Juventus and played for the national team. Different to all the other youngsters we have signed

Kulu never won a title with Juve and was always on the fringes. He was on loan prior to 2020 and joined them that year. When he joined Inter won the league

Our squad players aren’t good enough… You’re right Davies, Doherty, Sanchez etc… are no where good enough… nor is Royal.
Conte is starting to see this, hence lack of squad rotation. The next 2 transfer windows will be crucial…
Man Utd, City, Chelsea etc…don’t buy average players… we do, unfortunately.
Levy is always looking for a bargain!

Don, this is real life, this isn't you sat at home playing football manager in your pants.

Conte always said it would take a few windows; most mangers do if you listen to them, but few rarely are given the time to do so.

I hate to say it, but Arsenal gave Arteta time and it's now paying off. We had it all in place with Poch but Levy got his head turned. That's where the blame lies. The club invest in players, that's never been an issue as much as you like to think it is. We just buy with a long term plan then don't stick to it. That's what Poch meant when he said we need to be brave. Nothing happens overnight.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have waited 22 years for Spurs to be successful, so don’t talk to me about football manager. That’s all the excuses i ever get when someone is trying to defend Levy. It takes timehow many more times do i want to hear that? I’m not saying get rid of Conte. I’m saying back the guy with quality instead of going into the season with the same shi** RWB’s and no creativity. It’s abysmal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't think I am defending him, but we are where we are now.

My point is I don't think you can go out and buy 20 players all at once, it just doesn't work. We 've made some terrible so called big money signings in the past which some of fans think is all we need. Throw big money at "big" players. That's rarely worked out for us. We seem to be getting smarter under this new regime. So many of our fans wrote off our January signings last year before they's even kicked a ball. That just goes to show none of us our experts, none of us are mangers or scouts, none of us see what happens in training every day. Yes we need to improve but I'm still quite optimistic if we stick to whatever plan we're on. This is just the usual meltdown after a loss that most expected anyway. I say we save our screaming and shouting for the end of the season. We still have literally everything to play for.

Dier is getting far too much stick on here. Don't forget he has just been selected to play for his country!
I rate him as a pretty good CB, and so does Conte.
The problem Romero and Dier have is what either side of them.
Doherty may come back to his last year form.
Davies is a lost cause. And Jury is out on Lenglet.

5 stars Don, nail on the head. ENIC are the problem and always will be, at the end of the window the squad was left short once again and weak in too many areas.

Conte should not be immune from criticism though, he does not rotate enough and waits too long to change things when games are going wrong.

Bottom line is we still need upgrades at CB, RWB, a creative midfield baller and a plan B CF as a bare minimum.
