Well you have nowt to "envy"

Trust me on this.

Whilst I am not as 'senior' as the OP - I came to the game in the 67/68 season - I can confirm that the idea that football was better in the 60s/70s/80s is farcical.

Regardless of club allegiances the quality of EVERYTHING about the beautiful game improved from the creation of the EPL and ECL.

Football in the 70s was thuggish on and off the pitch, and football in the 80s was negative and boring (and still thuggish).

Take the rose-tinted goggles off and be careful what you wish for.

Money has always influenced the game to some degree, don’t kid yourself about that. He’s also watched the majority of football without the pass back rule, on quagmire pitches with players whose staple diets were pies, potatoes and pints of Guinness.

ah yes the back pass rule, no more timewasing, lets not forget they also changed the offside rule around the same time causing confusion in school playgrounds and fields across the country
