I talk to many people about the electrification of transport. There are a lot of naysayers pointing to this problem or that problem, without any idea of the work being done to solve them.
One common comment is what about trucking? and it is a fair question. There are in fact already electric trucks in use today, but Tesla has finally taken it to another level. launching their Semi truck, first announced five years ago.
What makes it different is the range, while other electric trucks are managing maybe 200 miles. The Tesla Semi takes that up to 500 miles. The electric truck has many other advantages, not least in emissions. If anyone is interested in the future of trucking check out the link.

Can't see this semi doing very well when there is such stiff competition out there
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the electric trucking space there is very little competition. And an electric truck has many advantages. Simple economics will mean the future of trucking is electric.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is that because no one wants a semi? Anyway, anyone could produce a semi, it's not hard. But no one wants it. Especially an electric semi. Who even thinks of and creates that? Yes plenty of people go electric for reliability reasons and they produce less stuff out the pipe, but they would never buy an electric powered semi.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Obviously Pepsi wants them, along with many other big companies with pre orders.
And making electric trucks is easy, making an electric truck with 500 mile range is not. Daimler said
“If Tesla really delivers on this promise, we’ll obviously buy two trucks — one to take apart and one to test because if that happens, something has passed us by. But for now, the same laws of physics apply in Germany and in California.”

Also they seem to be missing half the market. Men can understand and relate to a semi but women just wouldn't go near them. How do you propose Tesla penetrate the female market with a semi when they are just not interested in that? Any evidence that they would be interested as I'd love to be proven wrong. I hope Tesla can keep it up, I really do, but at the moment I just don't know. It's simple market research.
