It looks to be the end of the road for the 82 year old who is no longer responding to treatment for bowel cancer and is now being moved to end of life care.
Donโt think weโll see his like for a long time, the first real football global superstar in modern times and an unbelievable player in his prime. Hope he has a peaceful last few days/weeks
Pele moved to end of life care

Ace have a look at the video I posted there’s plenty of footage of his goals and technical ability - most people just don’t get round to watching it and see the same old recycled stuff. He was doing stuff people hasn’t seen before on pitches that were worse than your average front garden. Then have a look at the greats that speak about him who played against him - they’d never seen anyone like him.
He’s rightly considered the greatest or at least one of them.

Anyone in denial of how good Pele was knows next to nothing about football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nobody is denying he is one of the greats. Everything has to be so black and white to some people. You can pose a question, apply critical thinking etc without it meaning you’re slagging someone off.
Someone in this thread said he was better than Maradona and easily superior to Messi and Ronaldo. I’m interested to know how much people have really seen of him to be able to make a judgement like that with such strong conviction.

You don't have to necessarily need to see a player to make a judgement. Plenty that have will testify to how great he was.
I never actually saw Michaelangelo painting or Shakespeare writing or Beethoven writing music. But they are all considered the best of the best in their particular professions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We can still see/hear the art, writing and music now though. With Pele. Undoubtedly one of the best ever but I've not seen enough to say he's better than Messi and Maradona. He may well have been but I've not seen enough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Faurcenough. But I did, so that is my opinion.

That's OK IMO. You have seen them all so you're opinion is probably more valid than mine as I can only go by clips.

The problem here is that we are comparing like for like;
Pele played in an era when virtually anything went on the pitch. I remember the 1966 WC when both Hungary & Bulgaria set out to stop Brazil by kicking lumps out of them at every opportunity. If they had had VAR then I think at least 6-7 players would been sent off for off the ball incidents.
Remember also that equipment was totally different, balls heavier, boots much sturdier and gave more protection than the “carpet slippers” players wear now. The pitches were heavy going, especially Wembley.
The refereeing standards were not high either, you saw quite a few referees and linesmen who were quite rotund and had beer bellies. There were no real fitness tests or trying for referees either, so their biggest problem was having to make decisions from 30-40 yards away, because they couldn’t always keep up play.
Who do I think was the greatest player? That is very subjective, I do have an advantage in that I that seem some incredible footballers since the late 1950’s.
Whilst everyone seems to go for goal scorers, there have been some outstanding players in other positions.
I remember being at Wembley in 1963 to see England V The Rest of the World team.
On the pitch that day were Banks, Moore, Greaves, Bobby Charlton for England. In the R of the W team were Yashin, Di Stefano, Puskas, Eusebio, Gento, Law, Santos, Baxter Seeler. All World class players but there is no way I could do a comparison with modern footballers.
Everything is different, pitches, off field back up, trying facilities, diet and more technical training philosophies.
There were less foot and ankle injuries in those days than there are now, mainly down to more sturdy boots.
In those days players were less athletic than now, which obviously gives modern day players the edge!๐ค

Good summing up Genius. Difficult to compare players. But I hate the way, the greats of the 20th century are dismissed by a lot of modern supporters.
Those players you mentioned gave an enormous amount of pleasure that saw them play, and I personally would still take watching those over the current crop of players.
