Can England win the World Cup?

Possibly, in what I think has been a fairly even Tournament thus far. Or will they crash and burn when they face France?

I don't think France are that brilliant, they rely heavily on Mbappe. But then I think England rely heavily on Kane.

50/50 match.

English players do not have the mentality to win a tournament. They have proved this time and time again. When was the last time England beat a decent side in the knock out phase of a World Cup? 60 odd years ago at wembley ? For me it stems from the players believing they are too good to go to the youth tournaments and miss out on vital experience.

France will knock England out, simply because their players will hold their nerve better than the English.

Although a tad harsh mate think you are into something with players thinking they are too good or certainly better than they are that’s for sure

Due to all the money in our league they may look across at their fellow players in other countries compare bank balance and just think they must be better

Our league is based on full frantic get at them stuff too where as other countries are much more technical

If we played our fast paced get at them style at international level I think we would do even better , however we tend to try and match the slow technical teams but come up short

Our best displays are when we go at it or certainly in periods of games that’s when we dominate playing that way
----------------------------------------------------------------------
problem for England is they can only keep up that frantic pace for around 30mins, and nearly always do it at the start of matches when they play the other big countries in major tournaments

I've seen this so many times from England over the decades

The pattern of the match against France is predictable

England will really go full pelt at France from the whistle. If England are to win it, they need a 2 goal advantage by the hour mark

Last half an hour England will be knackered and will drop deeper and deeper

France will be favourites. Mbappe will be running at Walker and co. A mad moment by lloris may allow England in though

I would not be surprised if Lloris sits this next one on the bench. He has been less than assured recently.
mBappe is going to give Walker a hard time, and Walker ain't as young as he used to be. He will pick up a card (or two) dealing with mBappe.
The French do have some other good players..... Dembele, Tchouaméni (22), Upamecano (who I thought Levy should have tried to get), Rabiot, Greizmann (playing well), and God only knows...Giroud is still scoreing goals!

I've no damned idea who's going to win this one.

Ted, Not a chance in a million that Lloris will not be starting.

Don’t remember you wanting us to sign Upamecano Ted?

YUP, when he was playing for rbLeipzig.
And the next season who was he with.....Bayern Munich!

Well....benching your captain might upset the whole team, so on the whole, the odds are that he will start the game.
On the other hands, he has been shaky and Deschamps really wants this one.
So.....we'll see how brave Deschamps is!

Lloris would have been on the bench if Maignan was fit. But I don't see him being benched by Mandanda.

Didn't think I would be saying it, but it does look like whover wins the France/England game will have probably a 65/70% chance of picking up the cup. Of the teams on the other side of the draw, you have Brazil/Croatia and Holland/Argentine. None of which have looked better than England.

Media banging on about Brazil, but are they really that good ? certainly not played a top team yet. Argentina look average, and England are better than both Croatia and Holland.

So, who knows. Get past France, which we all know will come down to who performs on the day, and England do have a shout.

England can win it.
Once you're in the 1/4, just 3 more wins needed

they've had a v favourable route through to the 1/4

now the tournament proper begins for England
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No more favourable than anyone else, but then it’s fashionable to find fault with England…
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wasn't comparing them with some of the other big countries (who have also had favourable draws)

But England, as expected given their route through , have waltzed through to the 1/4 without playing a top team

that changes now ofcourse
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So it’s not a favourable route. It’s an expected route for a team of our standing.
