Cristiano Ronaldo

Well to be fair to him , the match was already over so it shouldn't really be much of an issue I don't think.

But then again ...

Doesn't look too good , does it when the rest of the team are celebrating together in front of the fans and the team captain pretty much storms down the tunnel.

Frustrating for him yes but it's no coincidence that Portugal played their best match of the tournament by far on the night when he's dropped to the bench.

He's seen Mbappe , Messi and Neymar make big headlines on the pitch for their teams in recent days and perhaps he's feeling a little left out?

Ronaldo:

“An incredible day for Portugal, with a historical result in the biggest event in world football. [It was a] luxury exhibition of a team full of talent and youth. The squad is to be congratulated. The dream is alive! Until the end! Go for it, Portugal!"

I bet he starts the next game
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You think? that would probs be as much of a shock as him getting dropped after how they played last night and more so, the performance

The manager looks a tough cookie so it will bve interesting to see if he does?

I don't to be honest...he'll get minutes if
1) Portugal are well ahead
2) Portugal are behind with 10 to go & they need a bit of magic

Or he'll come on for a pen

Fair points the pressure on the manager from the fans will be huge, sure I heard them shouting his name last night, might be mistaken? that said it would probs be a bigger decision to start him than to not

Would laugh like a drain if portugal winning the final and he's still not on the pitch and the manager has made all 5 subs - then we would see.

Most of those cheering for him to be on last night were locals and non-Tuga fans who wanted to see him play in the flesh.

Most of the interviews with Portugal fans in fan zones and the like that I’ve seen on Portuguese TV have been Americans, Canadians, Germans, etc. with Portuguese roots or connections. I’m not sure how many Portuguese have even travelled to Qatar.

Cheers Rosso, wasn't sure to be fair and when I heard it I was a bit confused, your post makes more sense

It would be a sour note on which to bow out of international football for a guy wh has been nothing short of sensational for 20 years at club & country

I hope he goes out on some sort of good finish

A lot of people travel to world cups to see the likes of Messi and Ronaldo in the flesh, and I think this one, more than any other we’ve seen, has stadia jammed with fans from here, there and everywhere.
