Brit Fans Have Dumb Opinions About Neymar

Just read a couple of garbage articles about Neymar and I've observed this to be a trend about British fans who have always spoken with disdain about Neymar. I get it: there's much about Neymar's swagger, and gamesmanship that isn't particularly appealing to British fans who pride themselves (often in the most deluded, conceited ways) on their appreciation for fair play and sportsmanship, but the way many people deride Neymar is astounding.

If Neymar didn't play in the shadow of 2 of the greatest players of all time for the entirety of his career, he would have at worst a reputation on par with the likes of Ronaldinho and Rivaldo. Many Man U fans were talking most of the garbage about Neymar in the threads I read today. Neymar is a better player than many legends that played for Man U: the likes of Rooney, Giggs, Cantona. And you talk about the guy like you're talking about Robinho. A lot of the criticism for his performance today was pretty silly given he's just returning from injury and barely trained, and still managed the games big moment of inspiration. He was an idiot though for holding out to take the last penalty.

Neymar probably made the wrong move to PSG (may as well have gone to Madrid when he had the chance) and it almost feels like he's in semi-retirement. But a guy that has 77 international goals in the most competitive confederation (where there are no San Marinos, Andorras and Gibraltars) deserves a lot more respect than he gets.

As I mentioned in an earlier article people don't like him or rate him that highly because of his histrionics IMO.

And the fact he just won’t accept that he is going bald

No he’s not - he’s pulling it out to improve his popularity - he heard most men like a baldy phanny.

I think Kaka and various other Brazilian legends have maybe spent a little too much time in Europe and forget what, for example, hundred-millionaire Neymar’s tax evasion means to the huge proportion of the Brazilian population struggling to feed their families on the less than EUR200 per month minimum wage.

Not every European mega rich footballer dedicates a great deal of their time and money to humanitarian projects, but their Brazilian counterparts have a reputation at home for being money-burning playboys with zero respect for their roots who do shiiiit all to give back.

Actively campaigning against the interests of the common (impoverished and disenfranchised) man, indeed.

Must be pretty heartbreaking for those people that grew up idolising these legendary players.

I wouldn't say Neymar is far more consistent than Rivaldo, but rather that he's enjoyed a far longer elite career. Rivaldo was a fairly late bloomer, but his performances during the half dozen or so seasons he spent in Spain were very consistent indeed, and he also performed consistently for Brazil over roughly the same period.

As for the impact of Neymar's private life and political affiliations on how people appraise his talent, it might be a major factor at present, but I don't think it'll count for all that much as regards how he's remembered as a footballer, and the more time elapses, the less relevant it will seem. Very few players are remembered nowadays for their political leanings, and as for their private lives, most of the more reprehensible characters are looked back upon as lovable rogues.
