Nationalism

As far as the UK & NI go I am happier with the National Team manager being from the same nation for the sake of pride. I think that the connection with the players would be better as it appears to have been with Southgate.

Ah. Not for NI, they don't have the players for it, they need the keep it tight and grit managers.

For England as he's a progressive manager, who coaches the players on how they should play, improves young players and generally is a modern manager with modern ideas. He's also tactically very good.

Perhaps question marks over signings, which of course wouldn't be a problem in this respect.

Can't get Leicester playing though...

It is a national team and the manager should be from that country. I boycotted Scotland while Bertie vogts was in and would do it again.

He can't? He's had them playing every season above their grade, struggled in the beginning this season when they began selling players with no money to spend on replacing them but had got them playing again, before the break for the World Cup, winning five of their last six games with a one goal defeat against City the other result. Takes time when you lose players and can't replace them to get inferior players playing the way you want.

Many don't like his personality which I get but there's no disputing his coaching and tactical ability.

I would certainly weight it towards the same nationality but of you don't have the manager required you should certainly look elsewhere, no point hiring somebody because of where he was born and because he's a nice guy when you can hire somebody who suits you better.

yeah...but their "grade" went up when they won the Prem..something many sides haven't or can't do...& they added the FA Cup to that...so

My apologies for the UK & NI comment. I mixed up "UK" and "GB and NI". No offence intended.
As for England, they performed to their potential. Ranked 5th in the world they were narrowly beaten by the team ranked 4th so no disgrace there as France are many people's favourites to win the tournament anyway.
I am now hoping for Croatia to beat Argentina and Morocco to beat France ( for historic personal reasons ).

Yes he won an FA Cup and competed above their grade with the big clubs consistently, with lesser players and a much lesser budget. This is want good coaching managers who are modern in their approach and focus on improving players can do. However were moving away from what my point was, I was talking how good an England manager I think he would be.

What an awful take.

How many weeks a year do International managers get to spend with players?

And you think coaching / improving players is the key attribute for them?

Laughable.
