We can even go back to the USA match when he decided to leave Foden on the bench.
Gareth Southgate's substitutions ( or lack thereof ) is a bit frustrating.
But ultimately it seems that it doesn't even matter who the manager is for England in big tournaments. The old curse of penalties is still an issue ...
Harry Kane's penalty miss last night was just so typical of England I'm afraid.
To me I think it's a mental block that our players seem to suddenly develop when the spotlight is on them in big tournament matches.
Just saw a stat that basically showed that in the last 12 matches that England have conceded the first goal in a major tournament , they have failed to come back and win.

Wasn’t Grealish bought on for the injured stones? I know it was only a couple of minutes, but would have been even dafter to play with 10 men.

I think he was already getting ready when Stones went down; can't remember for certain though. A sub that late is certainly odd, but perhaps he just wanted Grealish to win one last free-kick in a dangerous area as it's the quickest way to carve out some kind of opening, whether to shoot or punt it into the box. Funnily enough, we got one - but it was from the jinking run of Harry Maguire

Subs didnt really matter that much, its not like we were playing worse and needed to drastically change our gameplan. We still created the chances and just didnt take them.

Sounds like hindsight but I was saying at the time that last sub should have been a speciliaist free kick taker as we didn't have one on the pitch (and no, any United fan will tell you Rashford isnt one).
Would have been a lot more confident with that last minute free kick if Trent, Maddison or Trippier were standing over it.

Yeah, as opposed to him.
It isn't really a big deal as on the balance of probability it probably wouldn't have gone in anyway (and Rashford's effort wasn't bad). But the aforementioned are all more consistent set piece takers than Rashford.
Point is (and its a very minor one) I thought it would have been of greater value bringing one of them on for Grealish in case of a situation just like that.

(If) he was injured it was utterly pointless taking him...and I don't buy the media pressure thing
If he wasn't injured then he should have been used even for last 15 mins
