England, Kane, Southgate & the Ref

It's done...move on...proper footy is back soon

The ref gave England 2 pens. And rightly so.

What else has the ref done to influence the game in France favour.

People should noticed what went wrong instead. England didnt scored from open play. In my view someone has to take consequeces and be gone.

The ref was nowhere near as bad as English pundits are making out. A few marginal calls went against you that could have gone for you but there were no outlandishly bad calls. You got two penalties and are still bleating on about the ref, that's giving Celtic fans a run for their money ffs.

England pushed France close and lost to the better team. No doubt that England are one of the top international teams but there's a certain English delusion that they're the best and it's only because of a shiiite ref or manager or whatever other scapegoat when they get put out. There are just other national teams out there that are slightly better. What may be a legitimate frustration for English fans if that while other countries have their ups and downs - see France and Croatia on an up, Spain and Germany very much on a down - England always seem to occupy that space just behind the best. Never collapsing spectacularly, but never quite reaching glory either. You're the Spurs of international football.

Marginal calls? The second penalty would have been given by Stevie Wonder it was so blatant! No way should he have needed VAR to get him out of the sheet!

On top of that he then forgets to give the player a card until Bellingham tells him to. It could have easily been a red as well because he was last man and denied a goal scoring opportunity.

Both he and the linesman missed the blatant foul on Saka before France scored and the Kane incident looked a nailed on foul - inside the box or not both he and the linesman missed it.

The 2nd pen was ultimately given by VAR so the ref affected nothing there. Goal scoring opportunity??? The cross was sailing about 10 feet over the Eng player’s head FFS … Peter Crouch on stilts wouldn’t have got near it.

The “blatant foul” on Saka was minimal contact, with Saka far more interested in going to ground (a recurring theme in the Eng team) than staying on his feet. Ref correctly didn’t buy it.

The “Kane incident” for the non-pen … yep, probably a foul in the modern game, albeit outside the box, BUT only a “foul” because Kane got in front of his man then slammed on the brakes to “initiate contact” (cheating, as it used to be called). If he’d actually kept running instead then he might have been clattered inside the box, and actually got the pen he was looking for … or maybe even scored from open play?

I've not really watched the England games too closely or at all in the case of the Wales game but is there any correlation with only picking up a single yellow card and that only in the France game?

Players not trying hard enough?
Told to 'be nice'?
Lucky with refs?
Not 'putting themselves about'?

Dunno, whilst very admirable it just seems like an outlier stat and maybe indicative of something?

Saka wasn’t a foul, he went down to easily. Kane was a pen all day

As for the ref not affecting the outcome of the second penalty - that’s the whole flippin point! He never affected it because he either couldn’t see what was right under his nose or chose to ignore the most blatant penalty you are likely to ever see. VAR had no choice but to refer it as every man and his guide dog could see it was a penalty!

I take your point about the ball being above their heads but at the end of the day the defender decided that Mount was a goal threat or he would no way have pushed him like that.

How many players have been sent off for preventing a goal scoring opportunity when the attacker hasn’t even touched a ball put through for him?

Rules are rules but for me it’s the intent that should decide a red in this case. The defenders intent was to stop Mount reaching the ball. End of.
