NZ going for a total smoking ban.
Good intentions I suppose but takes away freedom of choice.
Dedicated smokers would go underground and get them on the black market.
Can see it coming to the UK and other countries if successful but as siad more freedom to choose taken away by authorities
Should this be implemented in the UK

Yeah you need a permit during the summer in the Trossachs. But that doesn't mean you can't. There is a non-enforced "rule" that you can't camp around the shore due to dirty campers. But if you are responsible then they don't care. The rest of the country, you can camp anywhere.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In certain areas of Loch Lomond you cannot camp. the police will be called (this is on public land not private) some public areas of Loch Lomond camping is not permitted even with a permit.
but if you wanna go down the route of you can get away with it as being equal to your allowed then there is no point.
Im a pretty keen angler and there has been a couple times where I couldnt camp where I was going.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, you can camp in 99.999% of Scotland. 0.001% is managed and you can't camp there if you make yourself obvious and get caught. shall we settle on that? The point is that the law was changed in 2003 for it to be default that you can walk and camp anywhere in the country.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
no idea... I just know that Lomond has restrictions (i think 4% of it was opened to public)... Its not the only place in Scotland that has them. This was just a specific example I could remember
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The camping management zone around Loch Lomond is the only area in Scotland that has the restrictions. And it is only for less than 4% of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. So 96% of that National Park is unrestricted. Then the whole of the rest of the country. So 99.99% is about right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
no its the only place in the trossachs that has those restrictions. there are other lochs I have been to that you couldnt not wild camp on. what you mean is that you dont know of any othe rplaces that you cannot wild camp so will assume its all ok.

There is only one area where wild camping in Scotland is restricted on a wider scale: the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. From 1 March to 30 September, camping inside the Camping Management Zone at Loch Lomond is only possible at official campsites or with a camping permit.
Yes, there may be tiny little areas where you can't camp other than this but they are not significant.

I've heard the best way to deter midgies is smoke.
Someone should invent small, personal smoke sticks you can attach to your face to deter them. Hopefully they'd be legal.

They shoudl just ramp up the tax on it, massively over time.
When i was a young-un it was 90p for 10. Its 5 times that now and millions still smoke
I think it if it become prohibitively expensive for young people to smoke then far fewer then take it as a habit through life.
Seems like £5 for 10 is still not enough so whack it up 20% every year.
At least it may raise more tax revenue at the same time as reducing start ups and while preserving peoples freedom to choose.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
tax already makes up 80% of the price of tobacco.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
so what! Tax it to the point of extinction.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
then it will hurt the economy more than it helps.
the tax from cigarettes massively outweighs any financial negatives.
like I said smoking costs the NHS about 3bn a year..... the tax on smoking generates about 9bn a year
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Legalise da weed da fill the tax gap with drug money
