Whilst the current league standing shows us in 4th, it’s 100% a false position. Other teams below us are hitting form and playing miles better. With our current team and that rank defence, I have us down for 7th at best by the end of Jan.
This can obviously change significantly if Spurs dip in their pockets and strengthen a horrendously championship standard defence.
No Romero and the defence doesn’t look out of place if they were playing for Preston North End. How have the board managed to neglect it so badly? Keeping dog s** players like Sanchez, Dier, Royal etc is just criminal. I have zero faith this season unless we make key defensive signings this month, which we all know won’t be happening.
False position

Dier has been stealing a living for years. Error prone, no leadership, poor on the ball for a guy who used to play in midfield and can’t concentrate for 90 mins.
The exact sort of player we should be rinsing Fulham of £25m for.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He is not "poor on the ball". He is probably one of our better players at longer passes.
I don't deny that he can make errors and to be fair I'm appearing as Dier fanboy at the moment when my point is more about Conte being able to get more from his players. I understand he is not perfect and we could definitely upgrade, but I woukdnt out him in a top 5 of most dissapointing players this season.. Yet he always seems to get stick from every fan.

Top 4 is going to be tough now. We've let too many points go and are now in the thick of it with United, Liverpool, Newcastle, and possibly Chelsea.
The season has not been great. The way we ended last season and the new signings should have given us cause to believe we were going to progress further but this hasn't happened and our performances have inexplicably gone backwards. Out of the League Cup too.
Need to somehow rescue the season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I still think Conte will drag us kicking and screaming into 4th at the end of the season, my prediction is:
City
Arsenal
Liverpool
Spurs
United
Newcastle
Chelsea
I think Potter will be sacked before the season is done. Newcastle won’t be able to break teams down when they start turning up and playing for a draw and United will co tongue through boom and bust cycles.
Liverpool to finish a fair few points above us but City and Arsenal to fight for the title with Liverpool not really in it.
I then reckon Levy will not give Conte the guarantees he wants at the end of the season and Conte will walk and Kane won’t sign a new contract and we will have to sell him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope so mate but for how great Conte can be, he doesn't guarantee top 4. He didn't with Chelsea in their second season and that's why they got rid, even when he won the FA Cup that year.
Getting top 4 again would be fine but if we don't win anything with it, is it progression?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It definitely won’t be progression which is why I think Conte will then leave - he will realise that all Levy is interested in is finishing top 4 for as little spend as possible.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a mixture of blame to pass around for why we are not lifting up trees at the moment. Conte not totally blameless. Some of it is down to Levy, some of it Conte, some of it the players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The big issue and main culprits are Levy and ENIC mate and always has been. They are the ones that haven’t invested well enough on the defence which means we are left with rubbish players in Sanchez and Dier etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can’t see what Conte has done wrong, how he has this shower in 4th is beyond me - he has taken a defence worse than Everton’s to 4th - unblelievable
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In the bigger picture they are obviously more to blame but in the smaller picture, as in during Conte's management, not as much.
They could have done better in bringing in another CB, but we are now looking in hindsight about how problematic the defence is when going into this season did most of us think it would be so bad? Romero added last summer, Lenglet added, and another LB to go with the other new additions. It was a decent transfer window, and Dier, even Sanchez were looking solid towards the end of last season. I never felt we were going to get everything done anyway. At least on paper, another quality CB would have made it a 10/10 window for me as opposed to an 8/10 one.
Regardless of Levy, nobody can argue that Conte shouldn't be playing Spence more even if he didn't want him. Some of his selections/subs have also been suspect. There is blame all over.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You have gone way to soft on ENIC and Levy Spurtle sorry. You were one of my biggest allies and you’ve turned to the dark side. He’s pulled the wool right over your eyes. Lenglet on loan and an unproven RWB wasn’t anywhere near enough mate. It’s criminal we are still playing the likes of Sanchez and Dier
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't worry mate. I'm still not a big fan of Levy. He's still a bald caaant at heart but I'm willing to admit he has got a few more decisions right in the last season. Shown a bit more ambition, spent a bit more money, early signings, brought in Paratici who has done well, getting Conte in even if it wasn't his original choice.
If we don't do anything in this coming window though then he is going to be in the spotlight again, and it will be hard to let him off.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes a lot of people myself included were saying the defence isn’t good enough - in fact I was tipping us for the title because I thought we would strengthen the defence and then when the window closed I imeediately downgraded to top 4.
In the summer we were being linked with Gvardiol, Bastoni and Skriniar - I thought we were going to get another Romero level CB - but Levy bottled the asking price on them all and instead loaned Lenglet with no purchase agreement in place.
We will probably panic buy De Ligt in the summer as Juve need money and he has proven to be completely schitt
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did we not try to bring Bastoni in but he didn't want to come? There was an intent there at least and like I said before we were never going to tick every box as there was too much to do. It was still a good window.
Now knowing the defence is failing, Levy must look to strengthen it this coming window. We should be preparing targets. If we don't strengthen it then the blame will fall back firmly on his shoulders again.

I don't believe Dier was at fault for the result. He made one mistake that I remember, which resulted in a corner.
We had players who played alot worse but are immune from criticism. Son was woeful, the worst player on the pitch.
To be honest, I didn't think anyone played well apart from Kulu. Don't think it's fair to blame the performancr on Dier giving away a corner. The performance itself was poor, that's down to the manager.

Son was not that bad at all. He had the best passage of play in the match where he made a really good run to bring the ball forward. Tanganga was the worst player on the pitch.
Kulu had some good moments on the wing but his crossing wasn't the best.

"Why the slow starts every game though,I just don't get it?"
Very good question!
The Brentford game was a game of two halves.
But, having just watched the World Cup, I found this game slow, painfully unimaginative at times, boring, and downright defensively incompetent on the Spurs side.
Son tried his best in that face mask. I think he should be rested untill the mask comes off.
Kulushevski had a good game, as did Kane and Perisic (straight back for #3 spot in WC)
"The 33-year-old played every game for Croatia in Qatar, including their third-place play-off win over Morocco that took place less than two weeks ago."
Hojbjerg was a warrior all game.
Lenglet was decent.
And I would even give Doherty a mention.
Otherwise Dier had a nightmare, Tanganga does not belong on a first team pitch, The goal keeper (what's his name?) was junk, and I cannot remember our other players.
This was a match Spurs should have won comfortably by 0-3.
And it will come back to haunt us later in the season when Manu climb above us, and probably others as well.
Kane will rue the day he didn't kick Levy's ass and go to City.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes Ted, were not United going to climb above Spurs last season?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This season, old boy, they will. Just watch it happen!!
