What's he done

That makes us look, and be, so much better.
I can never see these things. I can tell if a player is playing well or not, but what has he done that makes the team good.
His transfers have been a mixed bag so far.
What’s the secret?

There are a multitude of small but meaningful improvements, some of which have been mentioned.

To me, the easiest thing to spot is the improvement in controlling the midfield. Casemiro and Eriksen generally keep it quite simple and tidy, a lot of pass backs and triangles until space begins to show itself from runs and movement elsewhere (which is also much improved).

Casemiro (with the security of Varane behind him) has also shown his quality in winning the ball back. This rattles the opposition and teams that were easily bypassing us in previous season are now having to look for alternative ways to get at us.

Players have improved individually but also have a much, much better sense of their collective positioning and movements in and out of possession. Things happen fluidly because better understanding of what the team is trying to do in any given phase (and greater confidence that the others are on the same wavelength) mean passes and runs are executed more automatically, decisively, quickly.

This is absolutely true. We seemed so disjointed and clueless previously.

I think the biggest single factor at play is our midfield. For the first time in a very long time, we have a proper midfield three.

Bruno, Eriksen & Casemiro are finally top 4 (or higher) material. Previously we’ve have McFred & Pogba, Schweinateiger, Schneiderlin, Herrera.

There’s no surprise that our defence looks a lot better and that our cohesion is visible given that our midfield has from what it was to what it is now.

On ETH I think he’s a very straightforward, blunt man but who probably doesn’t take it too far like a SAF might have done at times or Pep probably does. He tells the players EXACTLY what he wants from them and there’s little confusion.

I think Ole tried to instruct like Fergie did which was often ‘you guys do your job, you know what you’re doing, go do it’ but with the recent United squad, you couldn’t do that. There weren’t serial winners throughout the team sheet.

No idea what CF I would even choose tbh but if that gets sorted in the summer and works out well, we are heading in a very positive direction (until it all goes wrong after 2.5 seasons of course)

Oh I missed the most important factor - he swapped the dugouts 🤣

How do you not know what a manager does to improve a team after watching football for 70 years?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True, it's so obvious every manager in the football league is doing it.

No one cares if you take notice Strikemug. You are well known for being an imbecile.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks mate - Bronze medalist Khunt this year
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You are even a loser at that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was the second best loser though, there is some merit in that. Finishing 3rd in that is higher than United will likely finish over the next 5 years
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We finished second under Ole you moron.

“The next 5 years” - you moron

OP - what has he done?

He has had the good grace to play Villa, Fulham and Forest on the bounce, 3 teams who will be bottom 10, one of whom will almost certainly go down.

Narrow loss to Villa, narrow win over Fulham and an easy outing against a side that have picked up 2 away points all season.

If you top 4 mid Feb then fair enough, but I suspect it will be more up and down form with United 5/6.

Not wumming, just how I see it

He's also had the good grace to beat Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool ... But let's forget that, for some reason.

Beating us is no achievement. You have beaten Liverpool and Arsenal but are still below us - tells me you have dropped loads of points against the mediocre sides.

You can’t be any cop and be behind us, we have conceded 2+ goals in all of our last 6 games - we are faaacking terrible

I keep hearing how good United are only to see they are still behind a terrible Spurs side - weird that
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not really. We had a new manager and some new players to bed in at the start of the season. We are now just starting to gel.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

You lost to Villa a couple of games back and scored with the last kick of the game to squeak past Fulham. All you have done tonight is beat a relegation bound Forest at home.

If you do the business in a couple of weeks time against City and Arsenal I might take notice but for now, I can’t say I’m quaking in my boots
--------------------------------------------------------------------I--

Strikemug on top form of idiocy. It seems no one quakes their boots over Spurs.

Missing the point. How can you follow the game for 70 years and not know the role/impact of a manager
