It must have been a watershed moment for many watching yesterday's game, specially the second half of Palace v Spurs. Could not have failed to notice how well young players like Sarr, White and Gil played. Sarr showing us how much of a his self-reassured player he is, keeps things simple, and solid. He showed a presence that bellied his youth and Gil looked transformed, setting up the goals for Kane (well, he was involved in the build up of one and assisted for the 2nd goal).
White was also in prominence when he came on. He took corners well and was linking up in attacks.
I am really looking forward to seeing these youngsters pushing for more appearances, and maybe even claiming a spot in the first team.
The future isn't that bad in the middle or attack (we have Richarlison and Kulu to come).
We are being linked with so many players, mainly through lazy journalism and click baiting merchants, but at least, if the young players at the club can take over the reign when we have injuries and need them then it is a relief to have that kind of exuberant youths with talents to bring on in games.
The presence of Dier in CB role is a worry. He is not a defender and there is yet another wtf moment with him, luckily his wayward header went out for a corner and not into the net!
Did Doherty do enough to convince the manager he is the right man for that spot? I don't think he did. We still need a RWB. There are rumours that we are in discussion (or have been in the last 24/48hours) with representatives of Pedro Porro. However, nothing solid is emerging.
Talks of Marcus Edwards being approached by the club. He could provide the creativity but if Gil carries on being played, and keeps getting better than he is able to fulfill that role amply imo.
Now, it seems we are trying to play a waiting game till summer to shore up that defense, with targets identified who are reluctant to leave their current clubs mid-season, however could Paratici do it again by poaching players from Italy who are currently not being picked by their managers? There are a few good defenders who fit this profile.
Over to you Paratici

Apparently Edwards has a £52m release clause, so I would not be surprised if Levy is trying to negotiate a deal for Porro where he waives the 50% sell on for Edwards, and instead gets the 50% (£26m) off the Porro deal.
If Sporting are rumoured to want £40m for Porro (even though City can buy him back for £17m), then theoretically Levy could get Porro for around £14m, but Levy probably values Porro at less than £40m, and that is where a sticking point will be. Pure speculation though.

Cannot see the point in re-signing Edwards. Does he really improve Spurs? He had a decent game against Spurs, but that don`t mean a lot.

Agreed, even Darwin Spoonez had a good game against us and I wouldn’t take him on a free

Not really a watershed moment. Conte was forced to play these players. But with Pompey at home in the cup this weekend no harm in giving some of them another chance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep. Spence better bloody start also!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
hmm, would you start him over Doherty who has scored a goal and played well? I would not tbh
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kid deserves a chance. What better opportunity than pompey in the cup.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Totally agree and hope Conte does use Spence for this game
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you want doherty to start and spence to be a sub?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
for league games yes - for cup games no. Just rotate them so one gets a rest and the other gets games he needs at this level

The sticking point in all these deals is always the same - the bald khunt has to think he has got one over on someone and therefore he penny pinches - at some point another club with a proper owner just come in and pay what the player is worth
