Casemiro & that Real Madrid team

That is a great looking team. And we have two of them playing for us now.

Both Varane and Casemiro just ooze class and composure.

After the first couple of games I'd written on here that what impressed me a lot about Casemiro is how quickly he'd shrug off a mistake or misplaced pass. He's unfazed when it happens, forgets it immediately and carries on with the game. Often you see a player make a subsequent mistake in the course of trying to atone for an initial error. He doesn't... just resets and moves on as before. He's also a beast in the air, which I didn't know about him before to be honest. If we'd managed to get Frenkie De Jong in alongside him in midfield in the summer we'd have had an incredible central midfield pairing.

For a team supposedly heading downwards in recent years and not as good as PL teams, 5 in the last decade isn’t a bad return…

To be honest, that team wasn't as good as you might think based on the names and silverware. Player for player they were much better or at least as good as any other team, but the tactics and consistency to break down teams was very poor.

Bale got the most flack from the media and fans, and knowing him first from the PL you wouldnt recognize him after playing in the primera: Poor first touch, not being able to keep up with the high tempo short pass play and clueless when to pass or dribble.

Zidane was the next to get blamed for the poor playstyle in La Liga and will never be as high related as say Ancelotti, Del Bosque etc.

Some player like Benzema also played way differently as ymost know him now, not quite as dominant and enforcing presence.

It’s league record was still pretty modest.

I (stupidly) didn't think Casemiro would make a difference. He has. Bloke's real quality. Great signing.

Cassie and rashy are the main reasons we’ve been winning recently imo

I was the same. I thought Real were only selling because he was on the downturn and the he was coming for a last big pay day and wouldn’t be up for the fight. It seemed like a panic buy on our part.

I suppose I’m just scarred by our other signings of similar age post SAF.

I’m glad I was wrong.
