Gareth Bale has retired from football (club and international football) as of now:

Where does he sit among the game's greats? He had an excellent career. Bale must be considered one of Wales' best ever players; in their top three, for sure.
I get a sense he fell out of love with the game in his late 20s. It's a shame, as he probably could go on another 3 or 4 years with all the sports science these days.

Well he's certainly a great I'd say. Helped to carry a minnow nation to major international tournaments, and one who helped to define the last 12-13 years of modern football.
When we think of the last 12 years of football we think of Messi, Ronaldo, Modric, Xavi, Iniesta, Bale, De Bruyne etc.

In the heads of Liverpool fans, still recovering from Bale destroying them in the CL final singlehandedly

Bale isn't in that league, mate.

His legacy is going to be so weird. He achieved a lot at Real Madrid but probably won't be remembered by Real Madrid fans amongst their greatest players. but he will be a legend amongst Wales fans.

Best player to come out of Britain in about 30 years.
Well, the best player to come out of Britain since Giggs.
Quality with the ball at his feet. Quality in the air.
Quality at dead balls. Quality at running at balls hit into space.
Quality on the wing in a star-studded Madrid side. Quality at leading the line in an unglamorous Wales side.
Gareth Bale had it all.

He clearly was bowing out after a WC.
