Forest v Wolves - Match Thread

A chance to reach a cup semi-final...for the first time in over 25 years. With one of Manchester United, Newcastle and (most likely) Man City awaiting.

Last Game Overview:

A very comfortable 4-1 win for Blackpool.

The Good: We created numerous chances.

The Bad: We failed to convert numerous chances.

The Ugly: Colback, Cook, O'Brien, Surridge

Special Mention: Scarpa for creating so many opportunities.

Overall Record:

Currently we stand at W44 D26 L63

We should have got more out of the game at Molineux. Johnson with the penalty miss.

Our line-up that day included Cook, Dennis, McKenna, Toffolo and Williams....which are all highly unlikely to figure based on the Blackpool performances.

Injuries / Signings:

Looks like Danilo will be reuniting with his mate Scarpa. Advanced stages in a 20m move according to Fabrizio, Percy etc...if he arrives then I'd expect O'Brien out on loan or sold.

Elsewhere there is the rumoured Dennis / Sarr swap...a rejected bid for another French CB and Danjuma (winger) who has been tearing it up in La Liga (until a recent injury).

Kouyate, Lingard, Niakhate and Richards remain injured.

Your Opposition Story:

Too hungover to write on and / or make one up.

Form: (taken our EPL form as we are both EPL teams)

Forest Home Form - W2 D3 L1 GF8 GA7

Wolves Away Form - W1 D2 L3 GF5 GA10

Team:

Henderson
Aurier Worrall Boly Lodi
Freuler Scarpa Yates
Johnson Awoniyi MGW

Prediction:

2-2 at Full-time, Forest to win on penalties

Suddenly the FA cup seems very unimportant. Great to see how much that mattered to the team.

How stupid was Lopetegui in sending his most inexperienced player to take the last penno?

Who are the penalty takers on the pitch?

So will Hendo be allowed to play in the Semi's ?

Man U would have to approve it.

I think we need another goalkeeper anyway / get rid of Smith.

Morning after thoughts:

TBH I thought wolves just about shaded it. After we scored it seemed that our midfield sat back a bit. We did defend quite well, but still needed Hendo to make a couple of saves.
Scarpa was quiet. It will take time for him to pick up the pace of the Prem I suppose. But can we fit him into the team with MGW, Johnno, and Lingard.
Have to single out Ryan Yates even though we know that we will get that performance from him every game.
Need Taiwo back. The ball was not sticking when we played it long. Although Surridge did OK when he came on.
Boly could be out next game; McKenna next man up.

Pretty much agree with Red above, Wolves will wonder how they were not in the draw, their midfield is excellent, defensively not so great, upfront, pretty much like us need an out and out goal scorer. Our problem, other than not being clinical in front of goal, is that we seem to almost panic if we are leading at half time, we just seem to try to sit back rather than go for the throat. W e had a couple of spells in the second half but overall Wolves looked the more threatening. Yates had a great game, as is becoming the norm, I’ve started calling him the ‘rash’ he is literally all over the midfield, but Lodi got my player of the match, again just ahead of Henderson, i hope the injury to Boly isn’t long term, he is looking very impressive. Surridge did well when he came on, but you can see he lacks both pace and atm confidence. Don’t see anyway Utd will let Hendo play against them, imagine if he did the same again and saved the decisive spot kick. We definitely need to play better against Fester on Saturday or we’ll come up empty handed.

I think our lack of options off the bench stood out. Whilst the subs didn’t do much wrong, they didn’t offer a lot either.

If we were able to bring on say Awoniyi, Lingard, Niakhate and say Danilo (?) we see out the game comfortably.

A great result considering our mounting injuries 👍🏻
