Huge game tonight

Hopefully not too much rotation unless absolutely necessary, I would go as strong as possible and then assess the squad situation again and see what’s needed before the game vs Arsenal.

Lose or even draw tonight and all the hard work vs City is lost, win tonight and that momentum is carried into the Arsenal game with a guaranteed 6 points minimum from 9 in a really tough week.

We have the cup games coming up vs Forest and Reading where hopefully we can rest a lot of players that will need it.

Anyone thing there will be major changes tonight, or think there should be?

We need to be careful with Varane because of his injury problems, though. He’s not been playing three times a week that often for us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree but he essentially played 6 games in 3 weeks at the WC. I would have him sit out both games next week if I was ETH but we’ll see what he does I guess.

We don’t score enough to be confident of a comfortable win, in my opinion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So rest our 2 most important defensive players?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Would you rather miss them vs Palace, or Arsenal?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Both results are of equal importance. We need to worry about tonight first.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Agreed.

But if you had the choice to have both players available for either the Palace or Arsenal game, which would you choose?

I think we both know it would be the Arsenal game, and that this is why I suggested we rest them both tonight.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Varane is not a yellow away from suspension. Whatever about Casemiro, you can't be resting players in important games in case they might get injured.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If we can't afford to rest Varane vs Palace then we need far better options at CB.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Let’s face it. We should be beating Palace without Varane. However it won’t be easy tonight and he’s our best player so in a must win game we should be playing him.

As a said earlier, we have two games next week where we can rest him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Shaw and Martinez.would be enough at CB if.we rested Varane.

ETH is not going to play those two together at CB.

I’d go Varane/Martinez tonight, Varane/Shaw on Sunday, Lindelof/Martinez vs Forest and Maguire/Martinez vs Reading.

I doubt it will pan out that way though.

And the fitness coaches will be conscious of that when managing his minutes. If he’s fine to play both games he should. But if there’s a worry that playing today and Sunday could be a problem for his fitness then I’d be fine with him resting this evening.

We need to get Maguire back into some form as well, especially alongside Martinez. As with the amount of games we’ll be playing in the next few months, and Varane’s injury history, he will be needed.

He may not really be needed at all. It seems to be between Martinez and Shaw for LCB now and before the WC Lindelof when Varane was out Lindelof was the RCB. I think his time at United is winding down.

Ten Hag has had a habit of getting different results to last seasons equivalent fixture. Lets hope the trend continues tonight and another win.

He will be needed. Maguire’s played more since the world cup than Lindelof as well. He’ll be gone in the summer but we still need him to contribute this season, especially if we want to get a decent fee for him.

I’d anticipate lots of subs used tonight so plenty of players get half a game’s rest that they badly need.

Hoping for another 2-1 win for Man Utd.

Well I would have been right if VAR had given us a clear penalty and Fernandes scored it like he usually does.
