On Sunday Wolves will travel to Manchester to take on City.
Both sides have a midweek home game with Wolves hosting Liverpool in the FA Cup on Tuesday and City hosting Spurs in a league game on Thursday.
Since Head Coach Julen Lopetegui took over at Wolves their performances have improved noticeably and it’s to be hoped that that trend continues in what is obviously going to be a tough game.
Gem’s prediction: 2-1

When you actually read the previous post properly you can see that oldgold makes a very good point. We aren't missing that many chances, the problem is that there seems to evidently be a real lack of desire to actually take them.
Time and again we see players "pass it off to someone else", or fail to make the effort to get on the end of good passages of play as we transition through the lines.
In my opinion, if our players are failing to get into scoring positions when there is an opportunity to do so, then that is a missed chance to score.
The issue remains though that when we commit players forward we leave ourselves wide open at the back exposing our defensive frailties, as evidenced at home to Brighton when they looked like they had an extra man on the pitch when they attacked our penalty area.

Can see both arguments. The difference is, in one, the team is missing chances that are being created by not having players getting into the right position, rather than in the other, individual players are getting in the right position and then missing the chances being created.
The end result of both is the same: no goals.

I just think we create very little. Our forwards were always very static around the final third. No one really tries to make anything happen, so we end up getting around the penalty area and then going backwards. We only really had Podence who tries to make something happen in those positions.
This is backed up by out XG stats. As of boxing day, we were second bottom for expected goals (only Bournemouth below us). The quality of chances we are creating on leads to an XG over the season of 30 goals. I don't think it is possible to have a 20 goal a season striker, with that low quality chance creation and it probably shows why Ings preferred a move elsewhere.
Hopefully now with the introduction of Sarabia and Cunha, we get that movement in the final third and people trying to create something with a bit more intensity. If we get that, I think we will start scoring more goals.

Matt Doherty off to Atletico Madrid. Good luck Matt, under-appreciated at Spurs.

Wolves saying it is unlikely but not impossible they will make any signings today. Some young players will be leaving the club on loan deals though. I’d have thought Hodge, Campbell and Lembikisa would be really good signings for championship clubs

Hasn't Chem Campbell already gone to Wycombe?

I don't think he was. I think he has been fairly poor for them. He is good in a system set up for him, but there was a reason he couldn't get into put Championship team most of the time prior to Nuno changing our play.
Atletico is a strange one for him. They predominantly play a back 4. Not sure he would be going there if Mendes wasn't his agent.

Doherty is a decent wing back but not a great full back. Not the only one at our club you could say that about in recent years
