Chelsea’s signings since summer 2022, broken down into players who were signed mostly for the future, mostly for the present or both:
PRESENT—————FUTURE———————BOTH
Sterling——————Santos————————-Fofana
Koulibaly—————Chukwuemeka———-Badiashile
Aubameyang———Datro—————————Cucurella
Zakaria——————Slonina————————Mudryk
Felix————————————————————Madueke
———————————————————————Nkunku
That’s 15 new players coming in the door since summer 2022, including two loans that may or may not be made permanent and one player who is certain to be let go again at the first possible opportunity. Why would anyone do that unless they’re mental and playing football manager? After all there’s no reason you could need to sign that many players in that short a timeframe. There’s clearly no plan.
Other than the fact that only four players out of those 15 are
older than 25. Oh and the fact that the club has seen the following players leave since summer 2022 or could potentially see them leave this summer or next:
Emerson
Rudiger
Christensen
Alonso
Gilmour
Werner
Batshuayi
Kenedy
Rahman
Barkley
Sarr
Azpi
Silva
Gallagher
RLC
Jorginho
Ziyech
Pulisic/Hudson-Odoi
Aubameyang
Lukaku
You’ll see the likes of Spurs fans crying out for a complete revamp of their squad but when they see us actually doing it they lose their minds.
Arsenal did the same thing just over a longer time frame. Their net spend in the last 5 years is just £75m less than ours btw even when you factor in what we’ve spent under the new ownership (think that’s before Nkunku & Madueke are confirmed though tbf). We’ve been in the CL that entire time and they haven’t, they also missed European football altogether in one of those years.
We’re the only ones spending recklessly and violating FFP though
And before someone mentions huge wages we’re moving to highly incentivised wages over long term contracts. Arsenal fans’ tear fuelled conspiracy theories might have convinced you that we offered Mudryk £200k/week or some nonsense like that, but he’s actually on £97k/week base. Which is at most £10k/week more than poor little Arsenal offered him. We also offered the same potential transfer fee, all this confirmed by Shakhtar’s CEO.
Outsiders might say our squad didn’t need a revamp but that would show their ignorance. This squad has needed a drastic overhaul for years now, it was only covered up for a year or so because of Thomas Tuchel being a fking genius. It’s a complete patchwork of about 5/6 different managers’ signings along with a few board signings. Ironically enough the squad we’re overhauling was the one that was actually put together with zero strategy or planning.
And despite how relentless we seem to be I doubt there will be more than 3/4 more signings between now and the end of the summer. We almost certainly don’t plan to be spending this much money every year, the aim is to not have to.
They’ve clearly decided fk it let’s just do the complete rebuild we need to do in as short a time frame as possible and then let the entire squad grow together at once rather than players being drip fed in over 2/3/4 years. That way we won’t need to spend much if anything each year for a decent while afterwards.
Of course this all hinges on the players we’re signing actually being successful, but that’s a different issue than just mindlessly crying your eyes out that we’re spending money mindlessly.

I mean, Boehly is playing football manager & he is being a bit mental. You make good points but lets call a spade a spade
Though I do agree what we're doing atm is what every fan at one point has always demanded their clubs do, even though it's an emotional reaction, in ripping up a broken formula & starting again - and I do appreciate the motivation being for us to be better. Spurs fans could only dream of ENIC caring this much about the team for example.

A net spend on the verge of 500m this season.
May as well scrap FFP if this isn't punished or even worse isn't a breach.

I think that we are just trying to answer that age old question of what are we going to do when Roman leaves.

The answer seems to be hurting a lot of people!
On the serious side - Gallagher needs to come off that list!

I think what it boils down to is that there are a lot of very jealous rival fans out there right now. We're doing the proper revamp of this squad that's been needed for years and we certainly haven't finished yet. We have owners putting their money where their mouth is, which is fantastic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Honestly couldn’t be less jealous if I tried. I hope Chelsea buy another 5 players before the window closes. The way Potter refused to tell journos what type of player Madueke is shows how involved he is in this ‘revamp’

Because at that time he wasn't signed and he refused, as most managers do to talk about players of other teams.
You're clutching at straws.

You can laugh at our spend as much as we laugh at your lack of European trophies.
Your claims on Potter though ate clutching at straws. A bit like the many arsenal fans that claimed Arteta wasn't up to the job on and off over the last three years, of which I'm sure you'll declare you weren't one of.
