On yet another criminally below par transfer window from our unambitious and hapless owners, have we got enough to pick up the Cup and / or the top 4?
Most of our rivals have strengthened significantly, while we strengthened just one (of many) area(s) of the team that needs upgrading, having spent a grand total of around £7m in loan fees in the process, while deferring the Porro fee until the summer, when we will also have to pay for Kulusevski, meaning around £70m is already spoken for and a ready made excuse for Levy not to spend what is required in the close season.
Then there was the shambles of having to mutually terminate Doherty`s contract, because the club did not realise they had too many players out on loan until the last minute. This is incompetence of the highest order and just another example of us being "laughing stock FC".
Limited ambition once again, school boy errors regarding player loans, failure to improve weak areas of the team and dragging out the Porro deal until the final hours to try and mug the fans into believing it was a good window. This is disgraceful for the 9th highest revenue club in world football, we are run like a pub team.
As always, ENIC, Lewis & Levy OUT!
Now that the dust has settled...

Patience? We have been patient for 23 years facking years and are no closer to winning regular trophies now than we were in the year 2000.
All the infrastructure has improved, the value of ENIC`s investment has improved many times over but the levels of investment into the team is the same as it always was. We still have the lowest wage bill as a percentage of turnover that we did 20 years ago and likewise with transfer spending on new players, it is at a similar level as a percentage of turnover.
So ENIC are showing the same level of ambition as they always have, but at higher numbers. The problem with that is, all the competition are investing at a higher level also, so Spurs have hit a wall, ENIC can not take it any further with the competition we are up against.

Even Newscastle may win a trohpy before us..... it's taken the new regime 1 year and they have no even started to really splash the cash yet either.

We look to a summer with an expectation that the £200m spent this season will be added to with the necessary 2 CBs, CM and GK, along with the LWB from Italy.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I do not expect instant success and have supported Spurs for 60 years but a lot of what people are saying is true.
Everybody and their dog knows we need centre backs but what did we sign last summer? Everything but unless you include the last minute loan of Lenglet. Still need centre backs now but all the talk was of Porro and the midifelder from Roma.
If the window in my front door gets smashed I DO NOT replace the kitchen door first that has needed changing for a while. I go straight to the most urgent matter and sort that out first.
That is what we do not do and have not for years. Thats why people are complaining. Richarlson may prove to be a good signing BUT we did not NEED him whereas our need for centre backs is so apparent its unreal.
I am not a person that thinks we can just go out with a cheque and buy any player we want like city can but watching us play and looking at the stats clearly tells me that our biggest problems are at the centre of our defence and our goalkeeper so calling the people who run our club stupid when they buy everything over the last year but the positions we need is fairly accurate IMO

I don't understand what the negativity is all about (yes, I know, shock horror).
We've signed Danjuma who will unquestionably make us stronger. His goals to game ratio is probably better than Richarlison's. He's definitely strengthened our bench and provided stiff competition to Son, who needed a kick up the arrrrrse. At the moment, I'd say he's a man Conte trusts more than Gil, although he may come good eventually, so we've improved in the forward positions.
We've spent big on a RWB - it will be well over £50m when all the add ons and Marcus Edwards sale is taken into account. That was one of the biggest holes to full in the team and we've done it.
Yes, you could argue that we're still light at the back but if the players aren't out there or the selling club just doesn't want to sell mid season, there's not much we can do. No one wants to sell at this time of year. That's why there's no value for money in January.
Look, we bought two players last Jan and they transformed us. The same could happen again. Rome wasn't built in a day. Stop looking at Chelsea as the blueprint. They're playing fantasy football and I'm convinced it'll backfire. It already has but he's still doing it. The fact that they've paid £107m for a player I barely noticed at the World Cup just proves how fees are inflated at this time of year.
I've absolutely no problem with just getting two in. Arsenal have only signed Trossard and Jorginho and still spent less than us. United have signed Weghorst and Sabitzer for nothing pretty much. Newcastle have only really signed Gordon for about the same price as Porro. Liverpool haven't signed anyone and neither have City.
So what the hell are you moaning about?

-------------------------------------------------------------------
I am moaning that for THREE YEARS yes 3 years we have needed defenders and have got one in that time.
I am moaning because I am still watching Lloris, Dier and Davies when we have known for years that they needed replacing thats my beef.
And yes there have been centre defenders available that are an upgrade on what we have without breaking the bank either.

But we do want to make sure that we get the right ones. I agree we've needed an upgrade in that area for a while but there are lots of reasons why that hasn't happened...
1. The players we DO want just aren't available yet. I'm thinking the likes of Bastoni at Inter.
2. It's pointless plugging holes with minor upgrades. We have to make sure we get the right ones to avoid overloading the squad with more crap.
3. Conte's future - We're yet to hear what his plans are. That impacts the defensive line more than anywhere else because it's the difference between six top defenders and four (assuming cover for each position). Plus there are players that are specialists in a three. Do we sign them or wait until Conte leaves?
4. It's January. There's absolutely no one available at the right price to upgrade that defence. We clearly tried for Bastoni in the summer and it failed. I think it's logical to bide your time and wait for the right player rather than waste money just because you've got it and you need to panic.
I think waiting until the summer to see who's in charge makes more sense. It's dangerous to buy players for a manager who is very, very likely to leave come what May, literally.

This is a process. Arsenal flying high, did they do this over night. Last Jan they got rid of Aubameyang and that was their window.
We all know that we need to add further, but it needs to be the right people and they aint always deliverable..
Porro is a very exciting addition and when you look at our team from a year ago, the starting XI has added Porro, Perisic, Bentancur, Kulusevski, and the bench has been reinforced with Richarlison, Danjuma, Lenglet, Bissouma. Way better. Have a look at our bench in last years run-in and see how we have progressed.
Teams like Spurs and Arsenal cannot make things happen over night like Chelsea have, and look where Arsenal are now. Look where Liverpool got to after a few seasons and 2 or 3 summer windows with Klopp.
So many spolit little brats of fans just need to grow up and see that MOST clubs operate in a financially responsible way, and the focus is getting in the right players not just any player. If Chelsea want to pay £110m for a player that cost Benfica £10m a year ago, then good luck to them, but that isnt how 95% of clubs operate. Look at United. Cannot afford to buy anyone this Jan, relying on loans.
The club are not stupid. They will know that they have to deliver a squad that can challenge if they want to Keep the likes of Conte and Kane.
We look to a summer with an expectation that the £200m spent this season will be added to with the necessary 2 CBs, CM and GK, along with the LWB from Italy.
Out the door with NDombele, GLC, Sanchez, Sessegnon, Rodon, Moura to start with.
Just enjoy the rest of the season instead of moaning at every turn like some entitled priiick
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This would be a good post if the club hadn't been doing the exact same thing every year for 20 years
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So we've gone nowhere in 20 years have we?
We've been well run, within our means and have gone from a club who had never been in the top 4 or bottom 4 of the league in 17 PL years to one who has had European football for the past 12 years is it? more probably, and who are now regulars in the UCL. If it wasnt for the likes of doped Chelsea and City in this time our success would have been far greater.
We are now in an era where the spending power of the club is much greater. Just look back at our spending before the stadium and now, look at our wage bill. Its night and day. Our budgets are much bigger and we have never spent as much in a season as this, especially when you factor in that we would have bought Porro but Lisbon wanted a loan. But that does not mean we will abandon the same level of caution we apply to our purchases as 18 of the other 19 clubs do in this league.
You could argue Liverpool needed to spend to save their season. Didnt even loan a midfielder that they are crying out for.
Same for United, but they loaned a Championship level striker from Turkey
Everton needed to spend to save themselves. Didn't, had to sell their best asset.
People obsess about trophies and thats fair enough. I saw us win our last one and, Nuno aside, Ramos was the worst manager we have had in 20 years and that period post Jol was awful. I am much happier with our trajectory now, will apply a bit of patience and if we develop into a club/squad/team capable of challenging then the trophies will come....much better that than picking up a random trophy like we did with Ramos, or Wigan or Pompey managed, which is no benchmark whatsoever as to our true level.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
United managed to replace Eriksen with a deal for Sabitzer inside 36 hours of his injury... Pretty impressive work and a very good player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What's your point? Why havet they bought a striker or a decent RB or a quality CM below the age of 30?

yeah a lot of these deadline deals make a mockery of when clubs or managers try to claim the reason a transfer saga lasting months "these things take time"
nonesense these things CAN get done in a couple hours
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As spurs showed in getting Danjuma...but that's a loan deal, way different from negotiating fees payment terms players terms image rights etc with a permanent transfer

No Idea..... I think their squad is decent already... Results would indicate they are fine. I was just impressed how quickly they moved to cover Eriksen. As for Weghorst.. the guy game off the bench, changed the game and scored twice against the eventual world Champs... He can't be that bad.... Been quite impressed with ETH after a sticky start. Made some good signings, seems to have changed the culture and improved guys like Shaw, Rashford, Wan Bissaka etc

Some fans going completely overboard here…
I’m happy with who we have brought in, in the last 3 transfer windows…
As a few fans have said, regarding the CB situation… maybe the right players just weren’t available!
The Lloris situation is a major problem… he is the club captain, considered to be among to best in the world & undroppable…
But we all know he needs to be dropped!!
Bit of a touchy subject this…

When class CBs do become available, Levy & ENIC just will not pay the cash to bring them here.
Skriniar is an example.
No, they would rather bargain for a cheaper player in another position.
