The reason why we struggled yesterday, in my view, is that Leeds practice “gegenpress", or counter press, a system developed by German managers to stop the domination of total football, invented by Dutch managers and perfected by Guardiola. That’s why Guardiola always struggle against Klopp, whether it’s Barcelona vs Borussia Dortmund or City vs Liverpool. Always. Gegenpress is the antidote to the system we practice now under ETH. Our players yesterday were fooled by Leeds’ position at the bottom of the table. They were just not prepared. I also think that we will find it hard to beat them on Sunday. The good news for us is that we won’t play Leeds every week. The bad news for them is that they’re going to struggle against most of the other teams. Gegenpress is very affective, but extremely demanding, both physically and mentally. Have you noticed that Liverpool, under Klopp, are unable to have two good years in a row? They need a year off in between.

We created plenty of chances once we settled I thought even if we were a bit frantic at times.
I think Sunday could be a similar game but perhaps with us taking our chances. Had we done so last night I don't believe we'd be talking about Leeds stopping us in all honesty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m not talking about the score. I’m talking about how difficult and frustrating for teams like us to play against that system.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But if wasn’t hard for us to play against the system. We just came out of the blocks slow at the start of each half.
It was one of those games where we just didn’t look like we would score for the first hour or so.
I think you are reading to much into it.

Strange the way people say what should have been and some have even said against a poor side!..
Fact is, our club doesn't come close to your's as far as the first team go, so, with what we have some should give us a bit more credit for what we did!..
Your team is well above ours, but we'll keep doing what we do and see where it gets us, and hopefully we're still around to play you a better game next season, with a better coach!..

How much more credit do you want? Leeds played well above the standard they have played most of the season.
You have to ask your players how they can’t motivate themselves to play with that intensity every week.

We didn't up our game. We've played better than that and lost.
An early goal and an own goal will help every time.
Marsch was a terrible manager who's tactics and subs were useless. He won't be missed by Leeds fans.
Hopefully Sunday we'll be better. I think we'll have to be to get something from the game

That was more down to the Marsch way, like I said, next season with a better coach!..

Fred having one of his wtf games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think we've seen enough now to conclude that it's less about Fred being wildly inconsistent, more about him having a narrow range of things he does really well, and not being a very good player outside of that. He's excellent at being a high energy ball winner and space closer high up the pitch, with a rigorous structure behind him. He's insecure if asked to take the ball on the turn from our defence and his passing isn't extremely reliable. So generally he's been fine playing in front of Casemiro and almost always been limited and a bit dangerous to us when playing deep in a pivot.

The biggest contributor to most of Leeds attacks through needless lost possession was Fred, Bruno not far behind.
If we don’t sort this out Sunday will be a very difficult game, possibly another Brentford.

One incident stood out for me last night. Don't get me wrong. I like Fred and think he has something to offer but last night he charged in to close down, was easily bypassed and you could actually see the frustration in him. He's at an age now where he should have been the one calming that midfield considering he had a full debutant next to him. Like you say he's better when he has Casemiro next/behind him but last night he was poor. Not for the want of effort, it never is, but just erratic.

We struggle generally which is reflected in our goal difference when you compare it to City, Arsenal and even Newcastle.
People are talking as though we are a shoe in for top 4, I think Spurs will finish above us due to having a world class striker, Newcastle is 50-50.
Need a good summer of transfers to cement top 4 next year.
