Pride Park Stadium 1945 Tuesday 14th February 2023
Weeeeeee!!!! and thats it, unbeaten run done and it was not really unexpected. Still no reason to over analyse, we move on and get on.
So, looking for an instant reaction v Lincoln on Tuesday followed by four out of the next five matches at home.
Will the manager of the month curse continue? Will the February slump rear its head - again?(
We know Max Bird will be out for at least 3 more weeks, couldbe an unchanged team for Lincoln - not sure whatyou can really change.
Lincoln are the archetypal mid league team - neither up nor down but somewhere in the middle but have the abilty to surprise. I'm just typing fillers now.
I agreed our play was very forced, panicky almost. The crossing was generally terrible but we persisted all night with the same tactics which clearly weren’t working. Both full-backs had very disappointing games for me and several players were guilty of passing it out of play from time to time for no good reason. By contrast I thought Lincoln were more composed and purposeful on the ball, despite having less of it, and it felt like a two-nil to them was on the cards until the sending-off. After we scored I thought we would end up taking the points and in the end it was only really bad luck that stopped us, but a win wouldn’t have glossed over what was a poor performance overall. We seemed to rush ourselves into making mistakes. Quite strange really, not sure what we were trying to achieve by it.
So.... after making my pilgrimage to the home of football and walking over 4000 miles was underwhelmed by our play very repetitious and careless will be texting P.W with my thoughts and travel costs, will wait to hear response. Oh well enjoyed the atmosphere and always good to be at Pride Park, hopefully next time will be better.
