so if anything it proves hes a man utd fan.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Regardless he's from Machester and will have family members and friends who are City fans. It should never happen.

Absolutely pathetic attitude.

Within an average circle of close friends and family, the average person surely has 'links' to at least 7 or 8 PL clubs?

It's absurd to think we should be taking that into account when allocating referees.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolutely we should be taking it into account. Many professions take into account the potential for a conflict of interest. Refereeing is no different and in fact has a high possibility of this occurring. It is really not difficult to remove this potential.

Also it's easy for a United fan to be happy with so many Machester referees in the league. I don't remember the last time we played United or City without a referee from Manchester.

I don't see where the problem is by removing this doubt. I know they used to do this so what changed? They have so many referees from Manchester that they simply can't work it?

It doesn't have to get to that level of ridiculous. Simply you don't referee a club from the area you're from. It doesn't have to be a sensationalist example. Just a simple one.

You're moving the goalposts.

It already is taken into account.

I'm referring to your comment about family members - what a stupid comment that is.

In my family, I have United, City, Tottenham, Arsenal, Newcastle and Chester supporters.

Pretty sure extended family would include Blackburn and Stoke now as well.

Seriously, engage your brain.

I'm not moving the goalposts at all. I wasn't suggesting you don't pick a referee because he may have friends and family who support the club he's refereeing.

I was suggesting you don't pick a referee to referee a club where he's from as there is a huge potential for a conflict of interest, whether that be his own natural bias or that of his friends or family. The chances of having multiple friends and family being a fan of a club where you live is extremely high, it is not remotely the same for other areas and wouldn't be an impossible task to consider it. I'm suggesting you remove the huge potential, not the minimal potential.

One further point as I know how this is going to go with you.

I know what I meant, don't keep going on telling me what I meant for hours. I've explained in more detail since you weren't able to understand and sensationalised my point, finding extreme examples instead of the extremely likely example.

Right, I'm out. I thought I could stop it going where I knew you would take it but you're just not capable. Enjoy your 'debate'.

Of course. The philosophy on bias is that bias does not have to be proven or actually exist. The mere suggestion or possibility of bias should be avoided at all costs as far as possible.
