Qatari Bid Imminent

Seeing lots of reports on Twitter that a 5bn bid is imminent.

Perhaps we're at the end game now?

Interesting times ahead.

I like Arabs and Qataris.

OK.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would warrant that nobody on here has an issue with Arabs or Qataris.

What people have an issue with is autocratic dictators who suppress, brutalise and otherwise silence dissenters, enact overtly discriminatory laws, control the press, and enable the exploitation of workers to the extent of enslavement.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot of them do this with the support of Western governments. So maybe you need to look closer to home.
------------------------------------ ----------------------------------
So predictable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yup
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But not incorrect.

You are in denial.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s perfectly acceptable to dislike both if you’re taking about the governments, you know…
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Indeed, but some like to pretend the western arming and support doesn't play a vital role.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who likes to pretend that exactly?

It’s always the same argument: “Where were these people when the UK government sent its military to bomb Iraq? Where are these people when the UK government is arming the Saudis?”

Protesting mate. Out on the facking streets marching. Writing to their MPs. Supporting organisations campaigning against these activities and defending human rights. Exercising their democratic rights to protest (which the Qatari people sadly don’t have as a result of the al-Thanis’ brutal and unforgiving authoritarian grip on power).

I wouldn’t be happy about Tony Blair or Boris Johnson bidding to buy United if they could afford it either. But as it happens they aren’t; so as Winston has pointed out, that’s completely moot.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, they're not buying a club. But it's all about where you draw the line; you don't want these governments involved in your club, but you're happy to vote for the politicians that prop them up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, I'm not.

…..

Is this denial to do with not falling in with your way of thinking.

A few people in England boycotting the Qataris won't make a blind bit of difference considering the larger bulk of United fans around the world are relishing the takeover.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If it’s the brutal, autocratic dictator al-Thani leading the bid, I expect there’ll be more than a few United fans outside England who’ll also take issue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think that's wishful thinking.

Most of planet share similar or the exact same conservative approach to life.

If you're talking about the workers rights, well then people have brushed entire wars under the carpet.

If you check current polls on fan sites, the Qataris have enough support to suffocate any boycott. If opposition is that strong, the Old Trafford faithful would already be singing unsavoury sings about them. It's not happening.

The Glazers reign has produced enough hunger for the Qataris to be welcomed with open arms.

By some, sure. By most, very probably. By all, no.

There are several JA606 members on the United board who’ve already said it’d be the end of their time following United, and I’m sure we’ve all seen very many more on social media.

Probably not nearly enough to make a material difference to the club. But I think there are probably a few local lads I know who’ll at least give up their tickets. Not that the club has given a shiiiit about ‘legacy fans’ for a long while..
