Can it be done?

Well we Derby fans know what it's like to get a reprieve so should sympathise with the Bury fans who saw Bury FC kicked out altogether but for whom there is now a glimmer of hope in that somehow the Gigg Lane ground has been purchased along with certain rights and the stadium and pitch almost restored.

I do not know all the details but I believe Bury AFC was created in the aftermath and plays at a stadium in Radcliffe. It is hoped that the old Bury FC and the new Bury AFC can merge and football be played again at Gigg Lane in some League or other and of course that promotion to the EFL can come eventually.

All football fans should rejoice if this happens and is it too much to hope for that some sort of financial contributions can be made by individuals and even Prem clubs to help this along?

I can't imagine anyone other than Bury supporters putting money into this Chigago. Most supporters are only bothered about their own clubs I feel.
I was going to start a new thread, but being as this one is related I'll say what I wanted to say here :
If you look at the article in the DET you will see how we dodged a bullet with the con man Chris Kirchner from the states. He was arrested on Tuesday by the FBI and faces 20 years in jail if found guilty of a $67m dollar fraud. https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/former-derby-county-takeover-candidate-8149112
Now my point is - how on earth did the EFL sanction him as a fit and proper person to run a football club when clearly he didn't have a pot to pi$$ in ???

EFL's due diligence would be like allowing Gary Glitter to become a school teacher!

Over the years time and again they've allowed chancers, totally apt businessmen/companies to come in and ruin clubs.

Notts County, Portsmouth's numerous exchanges with Russian oligarchs, Roland Duchatelet – Charlton Athletic, SISU – Coventry City, Leyton Orient etc....The list can go on and on.

The question is when or at what point would the EFL be held accountable?

In reply to you Chicago, yes hopefully a phoenix club can return to represent Bury but they'd have to do it in one of the lowest leagues and make their way up the divisions. They shouldn't expect to automatically be slotted into say the Conference league.

Said this (as did others) during the Derby County saga.

The EFL is not firt for purpose. They act as the checkers but who checks the checkers? They are unaccountable.

Thanks Terry and I did see that article about Kirchner. Why on earth someone like that would even think about buying a football club, never mind put in an offer is beyond me. How on earth he passed the EFL test is beyond me unless (almost certainly) the so-called test is not worth the paper it's written on. But all may not be lost. The White Paper on soccer governance is due any time now.
