I'm convinced his approach to subs has nothing to do with in-game management, made my peace with it awhile ago. It's not necessarily a bad thing in itself, plenty of manager do operate like that - with pre-planned changes more concerned with fitness & such - but you need compensation somewhere else.

If your managing a team that can't buy a goal for example, might be an idea to dabble in proper game management cos that's a pressing problem at any position in the table.
